Chapter 62 - Secret Meeting With The King (3)

"In the final battle against the Demon Emperor's stronghold, we Andorians still did not hold the upper hand. We had fewer people compared to the demons, who still had the enormous portal at the stronghold to continuously summon numbers to make up for those lost. It was a desperate battle... or so I was told by the Twin Lords. I didn't get to experience it because I was the first casualty. I don't truly believe it myself, but the deities thought me to be a very competent strategist, enough for the Demon Emperor to be interested in me. Using a rather gnarly but marvellous masterpiece of Magic Engineering powered by the divinity of a fallen deity, I surrendered to the Demon Emperor and allowed myself to be taken to the stronghold. When we reached the nigh impregnable fortress gates, I sacrificed myself to activate the device, which, from what I heard, gave off such a powerful blast of divine strength that everything within a quarter-kilometre from the gates was shredded into nonexistence. The walls had been strengthened a lot, so they withstood it rather well, but the gates fell due to the proximity of the explosion." Luca was mixing truth with fiction in his words, as he couldn't simply say that players existed nor could he explain his original identity as one of the said players. However, he could twist some facts as needed to make it real.

The king and the young dragon sat silently as they continued to listen to Luca's story, "Originally, we should have won. However, the Demon Emperor had another identity that hadn't been considered, and it threw off the final push. The Demon Emperor should really be called the Demon God, as he is a true deity of his own plane. Not just that, he is the only deity as he devoured all others. His power is stronger than all of our deities combined, and then some. After being in Andor for ten-some years, he'd managed to draw enough of his divine power to his clone in our plane to forcibly rewrite time to his advantage. Prior to the inter-faction war, as it originally went, the Twin Lords opened a part of Andor so that a special kind of being called Outlanders could enter the plane in an attempt to bring, preferably good, change to Andor. Technically, they were only a soul, but they could take the form of any faction-based race and tackle almost any class. Their debatably greatest power was that they resurrected upon death, granting them the nickname of Immortals. Eventually, there were very few Andorians stronger than them, as they had unlimited potential. What the Demon Emperor did was to forcibly make it so that the Outlanders couldn't be summoned. The Outlanders were the reason we could fight back so well despite countless losses."

"When the Demon Emperor did this, none of the remaining deities could do anything about it, as all they could do was safeguard the core of our plane from the foreign deity's advances. With their remaining power, they found me, who was undoubtedly the weakest of everyone at the final battlefield and sent me back in time, changing my existence into something else. My mission, as per the Twin Lords, is to stop the inter-faction war as best as possible, save as many lives as possible, especially those of people capable of helping against the Demon Emperor, and find people capable of inheriting the power of fallen deities so that the Demon Emperor does not devour their divinities. By either corrupting the Planar Core or devouring all of Andor's divinities, the Demon Emperor can take full control of our world. As long as we safeguard the divinities of the fallen deities, it'll be much harder for that foreign god to conquer us."

"In order for me to complete my mission, hopefully, the Twin Lords remade my body into that of a Dragonborn with the blood of a long-extinct Mirror Dragons, and, I'm assuming through the assistance of Lady Fortuna, altered my summoned familiar to better assist me. With my bloodline, along with Arcturus's status as the only living member of the Stellar Dragon lineage, the imperial line of the Dragon Clan, we can influence the Dragon Clan to become involved before it becomes too late. Most of them had become complacent and subsequently were exterminated by the first wave. If not for that, our difficulties wouldn't have been so grand. After all, the Dragon Clan is the only race that has ever produced a deity, not to mention they had a proper civilization long before the appearance of the Sages."

At this point, Luca's throat was dry enough for his voice to crack, but he still wished to continue. However, Arthur Valar held up his hand to stop the boy before leaning back in his chair, a hand rubbing both temples as he processed this information. Silence reigned in the king's study as Luca awaited the king's response. Arcturus, beside Luca, was also trying to understand what he'd just heard. Several things had clicked into place for the dragon whelp. He thought to himself, "If big brother is a time traveller from the future, then his Nightwalker acquaintance must have been one of the survivors from the first wave, which explains how he knows them. I've also noticed that he often spaces out or adopts a rather nostalgic look that I've only seen on the faces of veterans or the elderly..." Then something occurred to him, prompting him to ask Luca, "Big brother, you said I wasn't supposed to be your familiar..? What does that mean?"

Instead of using telepathy, Luca spoke aloud, "My original familiar was a Wind Wolf that, despite being overwhelmingly weaker than all others, had an abnormally extreme determination that made him not just fearless in the face of death, but capable of continuing to fight even after becoming unconscious. He died for me several times over, but each time he just kept fighting despite having died. Fortunately, due to the appearance of the Outlanders, there were several people capable of familiar resurrection, allowing him to continue to fight beside me. Up until my final battle, he never stopped fighting, and I owed him my life more times than I can count. He even carried me to the stronghold gates, loyal to the end." Luca sighed with mild sorrow, "I had no talent then, and my familiar was a result of it. I never managed to reach Lv. 2 as a mage, either. The Twin Lords knew of this and changed my talent too, as I would have to save Andor without the help of the Outlanders. Arc, you are a result of that, but you are irreplaceable to me now, just as my old familiar was to my previous life. I'm sure you also possess the same soul as my companion, so I guess both you and I were changed together."
