Chapter 90 - The Kingdom's Plan of Action (1)

As soon as Crescius had activated the soundproofing mechanism of the war room, Arthur immediately got right to business. "Regardless of any conflicts of interest between those here, all of us must be united henceforth. This matter is too severe for any internal disputes." After glaring to make his point known, he continued, "Earlier today, along with the sovereigns of Cyelume, Felnaserin and the Beastlands, a critical meeting was held to discuss the future of not just the Light Faction, but Andor itself." Before others could interject, he cut them off, "Do not interrupt me, this is too important and I need to get it all out in one go so we can move ahead. Four of you here aren't aware of their existence, but this pertains to them so I must inform you of them. What you hear next, do not speak a word to anyone uninvolved in this matter."

The king waited until he had received affirmations from those present before sighing, "This emergency meeting was held under the supervision of the Light Faction's Pseudo-Sage, Lady Dreamwalker of the High Elves, as it was vital that she be informed. From a special source, we have learned that, in roughly thirty years, the Demon Emperor of old will return and once again strive to annihilate us as he did a thousand years ago." He held up a hand to silence the sudden burst of chatter, "Before he returns, other demonic influences will appear and cause mayhem. By the end of this year, Clearpine City is to be assaulted and exterminated by one of the royal families of the Dark Elves. This family, in particular, has grown close with demons, despite being within the nation that the Dark Faction's Pseudo-Sage guards, as he is one of the few left who was born before the Heroic Era's war. As such, they are more dangerous and can be considered to be a major threat to all nations. If not for this information we received, an inter-faction war would have broken out, causing numerous casualties that would weaken us further, making the Demon Emperor's return much smoother.

"At the end of the inter-faction war, only three members of my family would remain, with even myself having perished. Soon afterwards, the Demon Emperor would send his first wave of demons to slaughter the people. Six nations fell in quick succession, with only Cyelume, Kharnboldohr, the Deadlands and Yamelune remaining. My own bloodline would fall with the kingdom." The king tightened his fists in anger, making those listening contemplate more of his words. The king never lied, and rarely revealed such powerful emotions, so this had to be serious beyond belief. "Fortunately, there were survivors. In that future, far to the north, just on the border of the Dragon Clan's mountains, is an ancient fortress made by the same Ancient Elf craftsmen that made the Atlas Pillar. It served as a final stronghold that protected refugees, as well as becoming the only safe haven that matched the ones protected by the Pseudo-Sages. It took too long to grow food, so many starved despite magic being used to stimulate growth."

Crescius took the opportunity to cut in at this moment, "Arthur, forgive me for asking, but who is this source? I thoroughly believe you when you say it is trustworthy, especially with Lady Dreamwalker's approval, but I find it hard to believe this source came out of nowhere."

A quick glance at Luca from the king was met with a silent nod, after which Arthur continued, "Technically speaking, the source did come out of nowhere. The source of our information, which has been proven to be 100% true, is young Luca here, the new Dragonborn." As five heads turned to face the boy, Arthur spoke more, "Luca is a time traveller from the year 4:075 Divine, and someone who not only experienced everything, he personally witnessed the fall of this kingdom as well as experienced the final war against the Demon Emperor. No matter how farfetched this sounds, Lady Dreamwalker holds power over memory, which she used to reveal Luca's memories of the future upon his willingness. The other three sovereigns that witnessed it can attest to that. What is important is that we have to move quickly."

Nathaniel recovered from his astonishment quicker than the others, as he understood the severity of war far better than most of those present. "We need to send out a battalion to Clearpine City, yes? We have enough time to send one of three battalions: The Wyvern Knights stationed in the capital, the Stormrider Battalion stationed near the border of Grens and Bossen Provinces, and the Red Lance Battalion stationed in the southernmost Tapa Wai Province." Arthur pondered before having him send whichever was closest in order to preserve time. "I assume you're going to have an expedition to the north prepared, yes?"

"Indeed. We need to locate and secure Skyhaven Fortress as soon as possible. There is no need to worry about defending it, it is already very special in its defence. We simply need to prepare it for the return of the Demon Emperor, which is to be in 4:60 Divine. As long as you can send men that are experts in scouting and can handle rough winters, locating it should be no problem." Nathaniel nodded, stating that he would get to it immediately afterwards. "Elizabeth, we need to send mages to Clearpine City as well. Several mages are to appear and destroy the magical defences while assassins kill major figures. I recommend you send at least two dozen, probably even more."

The former archmage kept a grim look on her face even after looking away from young Luca pensively, "I'll locate experts of defensive magics, as well as some Enchanters and Array Specialists to handle the respective defences. I will also send several sets of various potions to support the efforts. If necessary, I will go to reinforce them myself.
