Oliver shared a look with the dragon. It had seemed to expect that it would happen. If it was anyone's design, then it belonged to that creature. Tentatively, did he dare to approach that gap where the wall had once been. He took a torch from the wall to light his way. He went a short way down it, before turning to see if the dragon would follow him. But it simply stood there in place.
"...Can't go any further?" Oliver said. "I suppose that makes sense. You're not the sort of creature that would sit here willingly if you had any choice in the matter… I will go then, and see what it is that you would have me see."
He went in deeper, his torch attempting to beat back the thick stickiness of the dark. So broad was that tunnel that even the giant dragon could have crawled down it rather comfortably. Oliver's torch had no chance of lighting all its corners. Only when he walked especially close to one side could he see the walls.
