sitting in class fiddling with my watch as the teacher drones on. I click a few buttons on my watch until a prompt pops up saying "Internet now available". I smirk lightly. the school security for internet was so strict now days that the only access people had to electronics were eye implants for those who needed them and the watch that held most textbooks and school documents needed for the day.
After the Internet came back to the watch I close one of my eyes connecting my right eye to the display while leaving my other eye to watch out for the teacher calling on me for questions. I then focus on the VR game title and activate manual control rather than movement control for obvious reasons.
The moment i log on I get a message from an online buddy asking if i heard the news about that swarm cluster heading towards the solar system. I open the window and type back. "Naw trying to stay disconnected from the news, parents following that no tech, no contact, garbage people have really been getting into. the only reason i even have a watch now days is for school. god knows what they would do if they figured out i modified the watch"
While i wait for a message back i go into one of my favorite farm spots and just let myself zone out while killing waves of snakes and giant dragonflies, with the occasional PK when they start kill stealing. I get a message back "bro the scientists have no clue what it is but its not asteroid's most of our sensors only see empty space around that area. what do you think it is man" I roll my eyes and type back after trowing a large aoe spell "Ignorance is bliss. Idc. if its a treat what are we supossed to do. were just two kids about to end senior year" I get a message back almost instantly "guess your right. but something doesnt sit right with me".
My watch buzzes telling me that schools out. and i get up amd walk out with the rest of the now restless and eager to leave crowd. as soon as we leave the school gates the familar chorus of buzzes and dings let us know that the internet is back to our watches. I watch as people pull up the news, a bunch of worried reporters and angry mothers yelling about their kids.
I turn a blind eye like always not caring enough to continue paying attention. i pop in headphones. swiping on my watch till a song comes on and then walk slowly home. on the way watching people packing and heading into town or away depending on the types of people. the overall vibe was doomsday, but I couldnt care less. feelings of emptiness and whats the point took up most of my thoughts as I head to work doing the same thing i do every day. I walk out infront of a truck on purpose just to watch it automatically slow down and every car at the same time make room for it to calmly go around me. the person to the right of me doesnt even look up from their watch.
I tap my white hoodie and it slowly turns into my work clothes, I sigh and walk through the door to as my watch pings letting me know It just clocked me in.
