As the two boys walked in the woods towards their village Milo looked at Kazuki walking by his side in silence. Even though they weren't real brothers their bond had never been weak one could even say it much stronger. Ever since he could remember Kazuki was always there, they ate, played, cried and sometimes even fought but were always together.
Their village wasn't much big but it was the world for them, and their home was the only orphanage in the village. The food wasn't much their clothes weren't new but they were happy, most of the time.
Milo looked at Kazuki's with a mischievous smile on his face, he lifted his hand up in the air and then.
'Smackkkk! '
"Oww! Hey! what now? " grunted Kazuki.
"Cheer up already. Don't mind things u can't do anything about" Said Milo with a slight smile.
"I know b- but " Kazuki looked at Milos face that had a sweet smile on his face, he knew Milo was trying to cheer him up and that they didn't have the luxury to be sad over an animals death. He had even eaten them before but seeing one die in front of still made him sad, and now they even had enough food.
Both of them were about 10 years old right now hunting was out of their league so all they could do to help were menial tasks like collect firewood from this forest,this was a safe zone as well that's why they would come by here from time to time. There had been days when they had sleep without food so having meat for food was a luxury for them and the sadness he felt was a bigger luxury he couldn't afford. So he smiled as the only thought that he kept in his head was delicious food.
"Ok." Kazuki smiled while rubbing his head.
'He's going to hit me again if I stay sad right. Arggh!' Kazuki knew Milo well just like Milo knew him. He knew Milo only wanted to see him happy so he didn't fight or protest, and he knew Milo was right, he couldn't be sad forever.
'But still why hit so hard' Kazuki thought while looking at Milo's sweet smile.
"That's it. " Milo said while rubbing Kazuki's head.
"Now let's hurry home, the forest feels weird today " Milo said as his expressions changed from a smile to a serious one with a dropped tone.
Kazuki also noticed that something was not right the woods were a tad too silent.
'It's not like it is always noisy but not even the sound of insects can be heard. ' They both had the same thought as they looked at each other, they both nodded and started running towards the village.
