Summer Ford looked up at the book on the second-to-last shelf when she arrived; she seemed to want to take it.
Her height was a bit lacking, and despite standing on tiptoe several times, she couldn't reach it.
Just as she was hesitating whether to fetch a ladder, Ethan Laurent's presence suddenly enveloped her from behind. She wasn't quite sure what was happening when she felt a tight grasp around her waist, and she found herself lifted up into the air.
Slightly stunned, Summer lowered her gaze and looked at the hands wrapped around her, her eyes fixating on the diamond ring on his ring finger. She froze momentarily, her face turning slightly as her gaze landed on the man's face behind her.
The place where they stood was bathed in sunlight.
The autumn sun wasn't hot; it was warm, gently and hazily draping over them, dancing lightly at the ends of their hair, eyebrows, casting a mellow shadow over his facial features.
