Chapter 57 - Good Old Days

"What kind of a dream is this one" she felt incredulous after waiting for a big reveal, having chased that hooded person she had presumed to be male. She should've known nothing about her dreams had been anything she had assumed it to be before so it shouldn't have come as a surprise but hey. The hooded stranger turned out to be female after all and maybe the face was that of a stranger after all. The dream had ended and she was awake now but the last words of that woman still echoed loud and clear in her head. She noticed that the sun was already up high in the sky but for some reason *thanks to divinity* her curtains were not drawn and no one had shouted her name for her to come and have breakfast.
She really needed the power nap she just took, on her own bed, in her room. It had been quite some time without being close to something that felt even remotely familiar. This still felt like a sweet dream, she feared she might truly wake up and open her eyes to a cave with a bunch of old woman glaring daggers at her. Hating her for something she didn't even want to be part of but their need to be in control of everything rendered them blind to this simple fact. Greed was such a nasty big little monster, once it's got you, you're most likely bound in life long servitude unless you see the light somehow and shake yourself free from its ugly claws.
'I feel like I just aged a couple more decades than my actual age' she decided to shake the dream off by starting the day with a brush of her teeth and maybe a splash of cold water to her face to let herself settle into the reality and get rid of any negativity around her. She then went downstairs, she noticed her body wasn't as tired as she thought it would be with all the things she has been through the past few weeks but she decided to be happy about it instead of letting herself get bothered by it. She was somehow disappointed to find the kitchen to have no smell of something mouth-watering as was her mother's habit every morning for as long as she remembered.
"Mom, dad" she called out to them hoping they hear her voice, upon receiving no response from either of them, an unsettling feeling gripped her heart very tight. She decided to look for them outside as it was clear that she was the only living soul inside the house. She saw them, helping each other out with cultivating the flower garden they had almost lost due to her disappearance. She saw her mother smile shyly to something her dad said and that was enough for her face to bloom with a silly smile of her own. She stood leaning her body on the door frame with her hands folded together, admiring the most beautiful scene a child could see as her dad walked around his wife and hugged her from behind, almost scooping her up like a bundle of fragile goods.
She let out a sigh of contentment and just basked in the one true love she had surrounding her childhood, she realised the blessing and made a prayer sign in the air to thank divinity for rewarding her with such loving parents. She got tired of being a peeping tom and decided to let them know she was awake. "Here you are you two love birds" she said with the brightest smile on her face which they knew all too well, this in turn earned her a frown from both of them and she smiled even wider, "weren't you two harmoniously in love just a moment ago? Why must you gang up on me now" she said playfully, her mood had improved by leaps and bounds from last night. She approached them, her steps tentative as if approaching a ferocious animal which further deepened the frown on the two people she was teasing. She knew they will strike back and hard but who cares.
"I heard my mother mention something about a new intern at her law firm sweetheart, would you perhaps like a visit across town dear" Sally spat back, throwing a jab at her daughter, knowing full well she always dodged these kind of questions.
"Daddy!" she exclaimed, feigning offense so that her superman can come to her rescue despite being the one to start the ongoing affair.
"I think it's really time she moved out now my love, she's become too big for all three of us to be able to squeeze in our humble abode" Nick said, turning his wife in his arms to face him and left a soft peck on her forehead as an incentive which Dana didn't miss.
'Did he just try to recruit my own mother to have me move out and get married to some stranger then go and live with him in another town, far from here?' she shook her head at this antic "must you use your advantage on my own mother?" she feigned incredulity as if she couldn't believe he was using the husband card to level a ground that was already uneven.
"Mom!" she gasped when she saw the woman wrap her hands around her husband, "You are so hopeless" she giggled which was soon a joint venture as the older couple joined her. They walked back to the house where Sally took a bowl to make a cereal for her not-so-little girl who had slept off the morning.
