During these 3 hunts and in the almost 4 months on the Royal Road Jack managed to make two great friends in this group that he led to go hunting, the two came with him to the Royal Road and met him while he was still a prisoner.
So after almost 4 months they became friends, Jack's friends were Private Alex and Private Peter, both were young and single like Jack and one of them knew how to use the bow well and the other knew how to use the shield very well.
So Jack did not hesitate to put his two friends that he trusted to lead the group of archers and the group of soldiers who used the shield, so he was easier on his missions in the forest.
Of course, even though they were friends, Jack didn't say much about him and didn't tell the true story of what happened to his father and what happened in the village, Jack just said that he was an orphan, which was true and that he was a hunter in his village which was also true.
During the 10 days they normally spent in the forest, Jack always spent at least one night watching to show that he was an ordinary soldier and not just giving orders to others.
And in the last two missions, he did this surveillance together with Alex and Peter who insisted on helping him and they spent the whole night talking and sometimes drinking some wine to help spend time waiting.
"It's really like you said, Jack, even though this time we came with just 30 soldiers, the hunt seems much easier, we easily kill the lions and lionesses that appear and we also easily kill the bear earlier today."
"It's true, Alex's group of archers are increasingly skilled using the poison and so we kill the bear more easily, you always say the bears are strong, but I was never able to defend the attack of anybody with the shield because you kill them before."
"That's why you still have both arms whole, if the bear attacked you, your arms would be broken now, you don't know how strong a bear is."
"We do know, that time on the last hunt, you climbed the tree to shoot arrows at the bear and he almost felled the tree with a kick, thankfully you expected it and jumped off the tree."
"Yes, I thought you were going to die that time, Jack, but then the bear fell into your trap and we killed him easily."
"Unfortunately we can't try to risk killing a bear without using traps, even though Alex and the other archers are better now, they still can't be compared to hunters."
"Really, seeing how skillful you are and with you saying that other hunters are just as good as you, I think that training for hunters is similar to the training that noble families have for knights."
"The only difference is that you don't learn the sword so well, but you learn to use the bow, to hunt and to survive in the forest, which is also important."
Jack was not sure what Alex and Peter were talking about, Jack always thought that hunters were the best and all soldiers and guards admired them, Jack never saw a knight fighting and that is why he knew about them only from the stories he heard.
But after joining the army Jack learned that the soldiers didn't really admire the knights that much, of course, they admired the skill of the hunters using the sword, but they always talked about the failures of the knights and tried to belittle the nobility they had.
Jack believed in Alex and Peter, but he thought he had to meet some knights in-person to know what they really were like, after all, Jack knew that the soldiers hated the knights who did not pass on their fencing techniques to the army to maintain their nobility.
While they were talking during the night, Jack had another bad feeling like he hadn't for a long time, he got up quickly and took his bow, quiver and also his sword, seeing that Alex and Peter did the same and got ready.
"SOLDIERS, WAKE UP !!! Get ready to fight quickly."
Jack did not hesitate and shouted for the soldiers to wake up and prepare for the fight, Jack trusted his instincts and knew that something bad was approaching during the night, Jack wondered what the enemy might be and that was why he was more anxious.
"What happened, Jack? What you saw?"
"I don't really know what it is, but I think it might be a pack of wolves, it was time for these wolves to appear."
"Wolves? Didn't you say they are dangerous and why wouldn't we try to hunt them down?"
"Yes, but if it is the wolves, they are the ones who came to attack us, get ready, this will be our most difficult fight."
Alex and Peter were tense because the only wild animals that Jack feared in the forest were wolves, Jack said how even the group of hunters he so praised had difficulties in eliminating the wolves.
The soldiers quickly left the camps when they heard Jack's orders, the soldiers were experienced and have been attacked several times during the night and by wild animals and Jack always woke them up that way.
The soldiers who used the shield gathered near Peter and the archers gathered near Alex, the soldiers who only used the sword went to the back of the group, only Jack was out of the group with his bow in his hands and arrow prepared.
Soon the soldiers who were in silence prepared for the fight heard the howling of the wolves approaching, these howls made everyone scared because this was the first time that they would fight wolves.
Soon a group of 20 wolves approached with their eyes shining in the darkness, Jack was prepared for a possible attack by the wolves and was more relieved when he saw that there were not so many wolves in that pack.
As the wolves approached even more Jack took his bow and fired the first arrow that went through the neck of one of the wolves killing him, the wolves seeing this howled angrily and started the attack.
"Peter, send the soldiers in your group to make a circle protecting all the soldiers, the battle strategy against the wolves is different than to face other animals."
