'I digress, I digress... I still can't believe I have been here for five years so far. It took all my patience to act like a normal baby but I still jumped the gun a bit I think. My parents were in awe when I started speaking full sentences at two and a half and reading adult books by a little after my third birthday. Of course they let their friends know about how it's all thanks to the "oh so great" Black lineage. Oh, Mother Magic, these people love to pat themselves on the back.'
'Mother insisted on etiquette training, it's excruciatingly boring but I feel like a real-life Lestat. I can't wait to meet Edward Cullen, I'll show him who's more Olde Timey.. sparkly bastard. If I behave, Mother lets me read the books in the library. The portraits there make sure I don't take a look at anything too crazy. Apparently, grimoires are a real thing here... I can't believe Harry never looked for this shit! From what I've seen there's some crazy nonsense in here that would mess old voldyshorts' day up. Father told me we would do a set of rituals on my seventh birthday from the book... as many as I can withstand. Thanks Dad... super foreboding.'
'Things got pretty boring after I finished all of Shuri's knowledge. I even started making this video journal with my pocket. It took all of my puppy eyes and young master charm to get my parents to let me self study. My father hired me Orion and I a tutor for potioneering and Ancient Runes since we can't use our magic yet.... Well, Orion can't yet but they don't need to know about that. I still can't do much magic since my reserves are still so small. Even gathering energy in the Violet Jade Immortal Realm won't do much since my pathways and core is not stabilized yet. My mana is not dense enough yet to create a shard but I can do some simple levitations.'
"ORIIII, LUCIIII COME DOWN FOR BREAKFAST!" Melania hollers up the stairs.
'Okay, time for breakfast! I think we're having bacon... I hope we're having bacon... I'll make you one-day bacon gun... I promise!'
Lucien headed down the stairs towards the kitchen. As soon as he hit the bottom floor it became clear, oh so very clear to him.
"BAAACCCCOOONNNNNNNN!" screamed Lucien
"Luci, be quiet. I'm trying to read the paper, quit with that foolish nonsense," chimes Arcturus.
Lucien, now completely crestfallen, proceeds to shovel bacon onto his plate and take his seat at the table.
Orion, still half asleep, stumbles into his chair and put his head down on the table. "Too Early.. ugh," mumbles Orion before he gets hit with the Dailey Prophet.
He looks in his father's direction to see who threw it and Arcturus just looks away. Lucien watching him play cool just gives him a smirk.
'Oh this won't go well...' thought Arcturus shaking his head.
"Mom! Dad just threw the paper Orion! He could have been injured severely! It's 1933, did you know that paper cuts can still be lethal?!
We demand reparations! This is unjust! Must we resort to Anarchy!" yells Lucien dramatically.
Lucien's father just looks at him and thinks 'What a shameless bastard!'
Melania Black struts into the kitchen and looks at them amusingly.
"So what do you want now Lucien?"
"I have no idea what you mean mother dearest," says Lucien shamelessly once again.
" So what is it you want this time?"
" Would like to learn Occlumency!"
"Where did you learn about that?" Arcturus buts in.
"A book in the library. They said its good for sorting thoughts and organizing your mind. I think it might be super helpful, plus I'll be way ahead of the other kids. Ori can learn too!"
"Hmmm, okay. I will begin to teach you both later today but first, go up to the library and ask the portraits for a Beginners Occlumency book." Arcturus agrees.
Lucien finishes his breakfast of bacon with toast and runs up to the library. He quickly asks the portraits to point him towards the book.
'Ahhh I can't believe that worked! Okay let's take a look at this book.'
Lucien reads through the book over the next couple of hours.
'That was most certainly more than "clear your mind". Snape was such a bastard.
"Alright! It should be about time to meet with Dad," Lucien exclaims.
Lucien closes the book and looks around the house for his father. He was in the sitting room reading the paper.
'... Does he always just read the paper?' Lucien sweatdrops.
"Dad it's time for our lessons!"
"Ahh yes, yes. Your brother doesn't want to learn just yet so it'll just be you and me," says Arcturus.
Lucien mentally smirks, 'even better!'
"Occlumency is essentially learning to fully control your mind. Protecting it from invaders and sorting thoughts and memories is just part of it. It increases clarity, helps hide your emotions, and allows for you to learn at a much quicker pace," explains Arcturus.
"The first step is to clear your mind, then the second is to begin sorting your memories. After that we can begin to add defenses," motioning for Lucien to get into a meditative posture.
"Ahhh Dad, I kind of already do the first two. I've been doing it for a while too. It helps me to clear my mind and remember my self-studies," admits Lucien.
Arcturus just looks dumbfounded. Lucien asks if they can move on and he just nods his head.
"Ahem, anyway, for this last part is when you focus your magic in your mind and begin to build defenses. Make sure to start slowly because you don't want to send too much magic to your brain at once. After you build the walls, work your way in. Add some more walls, maybe a few moats, anything you really like. Next you build a vault of sorts for your memories and lock it so no one can get there. You can also leave around memory clues to lead them on a wild goose chase and hopefully, by then you can expel them from your mind."
"You can also add beings such as dragons and other creatures to defend your mind. That won't be until you get fully comfortable with occlumency. Once you have everything built, you will have enough skill to remodel your mind how you see fit. So don't worry about the initial design for now."
"Thanks Dad! I think I get the gist of it. Let's start! I can't wait!" says Lucien excitedly.
