Chapter 5 - THE TWINS

In 1957, the first twins born in Spring Vill in over twenty years entered the world.

Their names were Jeff and Jack.

The brothers were inseparable and spent nearly every day together.

In 1966, when they were nine years old, they vanished.

It happened on a warm afternoon.

The twins were walking home when they heard a voice in the distance.

"Grass Man, Grass Man, come, come, come."

The chant echoed through the air.

The boys froze.

Then they heard it again.

Closer.

"Grass Man, Grass Man, come, come, come."

Terrified, they ran.

The twins sprinted through the streets until they found an abandoned house near the edge of town.

They rushed inside and locked the door.

"I want to go home," Jack whispered.

Jeff nodded.

"So do I."

But neither of them wanted to go back outside.

The voice was still out there.

So they stayed hidden for the night.

When morning came, sunlight poured through the dusty windows.

The twins carefully stepped outside.

Everything was different.

The streets looked unfamiliar.

The buildings seemed newer.

Even the air felt strange.

"What happened?" Jack asked.

Jeff didn't have an answer.

As they wandered through the neighborhood, they spotted two girls' bicycles sitting in front of a house.

With no idea what else to do, they took the bikes and headed toward town.

For a while, the ride was easy.

Then one of the tires went flat.

The brothers squeezed onto the remaining bike and continued down a trail.

A little later, the second tire went flat as well.

Now they had no choice but to walk.

As they traveled, they saw things they had never seen before.

Cars looked different.

Signs looked different.

Everything felt wrong.

Like they had stepped into another world.

Eventually, they reached a police station.

The twins exchanged nervous glances and walked inside.

Sheriff Johnson sat behind the front desk.

When he looked up and saw them, he froze.

The color drained from his face.

Slowly, his eyes moved to the wall beside him.

The Missing Persons Board.

Photographs covered the board.

Among them were two familiar faces.

Jeff.

Jack.

The sheriff grabbed his radio.

His hand trembled as he pressed the button.

"Sheriff Smith," he said, unable to take his eyes off the twins.

"You need to see this."
