Ryuchen Ajero was standing in front of his wife's grave. It's been two months since Chloe, his wife, passed away and it was her birthday that day so he decided to visit her grave for the first time after her death.
"What are you doing here?" he heard someone say behind him.
Ryuchen's face instantly darkened when he saw his childhood friend Jason, standing behind him holding a bouquet of lilies.
According to Lyka, his childhood friend Jason was Chloe's lover when she was still alive. Lyka's friend saw the two hugging and kissing each other in front of the hospital before the car accident occurred two months ago.
"No choice." he said indifferently, putting his hands on his pocket. "I don't want to be scolded by Grandma."
"Still so ruthless." Jason said, grinding his teeth with anger.
After a short moment, he saw him took a deep breath to calm himself before putting the bouquet of lilies on Chloe's grave.
"You can leave now, Mr. Ajero."
Again...
Since Chloe's death, Jason never called him again in his name as if they were no longer friends anymore.
"Leave?" he raised his eyebrow. "So you both can have a private moment?"
"You jerk! Leave, while I can still remember being your friend."
A smirked form on Ryuchen's lips, not because he was happy but because he was annoyed.
His friend loves the person he married and he couldn't imagine that their twenty years of friendship would ended just like that.
"Jason, look. I know you and Chloe--."
A sudden punch hit Ryuchen's cheek, causing his mouth to bleed. The incident happened so fast that he couldn't even react.
"I said leave!"
Ryuchen wiped the corner of his mouth.
"What is wrong with you?!"
"What's wrong with me?" Jason smiled, a smile like he's mocking him, like he was the biggest fool he had ever seen.
Suddenly, he rushed at him and grabbed both of his collars.
"You think that Chloe and I are in a relationship?" he snort. "Do you know? Throughout her life, she only loves you. But why do you have to make Chloe's life miserable?!"
Ryuchen didn't know how to respond, he was just looking at Jason who was calm but looked dangerous at the same time.
"Chloe almost died when she was twelve just to save your f*cking life, you assh*le!"
His eyes widened, shivers rushed throughout his body as if cold water had been poured on him on winter night.
"She received a lot of insult and humiliation from your employees, she was tortured, kidnapped and almost got raped, but what did you do? Nothing, you didn't do anything... and do you know what is the worst thing you have done..."
Confusion was clearly written on Ryuchen's face, he tried to open his mouth but he couldn't find anything to say.
"...You just let her and her child die and you even had the nerve to accuse us that we're lovers?!"
Ryuchen froze, his heart beating so fast that he started to feel dizzy. He doesn't understand what Jason was talking about but he got a strange feeling in his heart that he couldn't explain. Feeling like there is something wrong, or something was missing like he lost half of his life all of a sudden after he heard what Jason said.
"...Lyka saved my life when I got kidnapped and almost got raped in front of me because of Chloe! Now, you're saying that Chloe... she... we have a child?"
Ryuchen suddenly remembered the night he was drugged, and saw Chloe lying naked beside him the next day.
"Yours and her child. You never answer her calls so she asked me to come to the hospital and found out that she was seven weeks pregnant. She was pregnant before she died, you probably don't know that because you didn't take her corpse and didn't even bother to show your f*cking face in their funeral!"
But...
No one said anything to him.
Ryuchen's father was on a business trip and his grandparents were busy traveling around the world that time so they told him to arranged her funeral on their behalf, but he didn't. Instead, he just attended Lyka's movie premier, got busy with work and didn't return to their villa for a week.
He let Chloe's parents arranged her funeral, because to be honest, he didn't believed that Chloe passed away that time. He thought Chloe was just throwing a tantrum and pretended to be dead and colluded with the police and hospital to get his attention.
After a week, he found out that Chloe was indeed dead and his grandmother was enraged when she found out that he didn't arranged her funeral and punished him with fifty lashes on the back that nearly took his life.
Did his grandmother know about Chloe's pregnancy? Is he the only person who doesn't know that he was supposed to have a child if the car accident did not happen?
"...And until now, you still believed that woman saved your life?" he smirked. "I'm really done with your stupidity, Mr. Ajero."
Ryuchen was dumbfounded after Jason told him everything.
Chloe saved him from the kidnappers back then and almost died at a young age, and what about the child?
Chloe was pregnant... to my child? My own flesh and blood.
His heart suddenly filled with guilt and sadness that he couldn't understand, there was a part of him that doesn't want to believe what Jason said, but he has no reason to lie to him now that Chloe is dead. All he had to do was to tell the truth so that he will suffer and regret what he did for the rest of his life.
The image of Chloe smiling at him every morning in the kitchen suddenly got inside his head.
Even though he always ignores her, the smile never fades on her beautiful face every time she sees him. Her smile shows how much she loves him and every time he gets home, he always sees her on the sofa, sleeping, she was probably waiting for him to come home but all he did was to go straight to his room and ignore her.
They had been married for more than two years but he never heard her complain, not even once.
What have I done!
The rain began to pour as he looked at Chloe's grave. The raindrops hit his body as if someone was hitting him softly, as if Chloe wanted to convey what she feels to him at that moment from heaven. That she was hurt, she was miserable, neglected.
I'm sorry, Chloe. I'm so sorry!
Tears start to fall down on Ryuchen's cheeks along with the raindrops, realizing all the mistakes he had done to her.
Ryuchen did not know what happened after he left the cemetery.
The next thing he knows is that he's inside his car, his head hurts badly while bleeding. He can't move his body and can't open his eyes properly either.
Yeah, he had an accident. He got hit by a truck while driving home.
Maybe that is his punishment for all the things that he has done to Chloe. He's not a good husband nor a good father, now that he knows the truth, how can he bring his wife back to life?
If God will give him a chance, he will make everything's right.
He will treat her better...
He will make her laugh just like when they were kids...
He will try her dishes...
He will accept her love and reciprocate her feelings...
Ryuchen suddenly felt his eyelids getting heavier, he was out of breath and couldn't feel his whole body as well.
At that moment, he knew that he was about to die... but he felt relieved and he didn't know why.
I will properly apologize to you now Chloe... and... I hope I can see your smile... again.
