Chapter 90 - The Midwife

Ivory had spent every day for the past five weeks feeling nauseous every morning. The feeling had lasted for hours, and she'd crawl into bed and would rest and even take pain medication, and hoped that the feeling would go away.

At 3 AM on a chilly Saturday morning, she found herself vomiting in the bathroom. She leaned over the toilet seat with her arms around her stomach, and she rocked back and forth. She started to cry, because she knew what this meant.

She head the door lock click, and the door opened. Foot steps came near her; she didn't look up because she knew who it was.

"I have a GYN and a midwife coming at 8 AM today; they will check you out," Blue replied in a tired voice. "I was also instructed to have you use a heating pad on a low setting for 15-20 minutes at a time."

Blue picked Ivory up and held onto her as he flushed the toilet and got them settled into bed. Blue placed a cloth on her abdomen and then set the heating pad on top of the cloth. After, he turned on the heating pad and kissed her forehead.

He sat next to her with her right had in between his; she felt much better having the heating pad and had fallen asleep afterwards. She had never been so tired before.

Suddenly, she felt someone gently shake her; she opened her eyes to see that Blue was standing above her. Her eyes flickered to the alarm: 7:15 AM.

Blue skimmed through her drawers and tossed a cream colored 2 piece loungewear set onto the bed. Ivory threw on the outfit and made her way to the bathroom to complete her bathroom ritual.

At 7:50, Blue led her down the stairs to their medical wing in the basement; there she saw multiple rooms: the surgery room, the regular check up room, and then her heart dropped when she saw the one room she had fears about being in: the birth and delivery room. She saw the bed, the GYN medical supplies, the exam chair, and the ultrasound machine.

Blue had her change into the gown, placed the blanket on top of her, and they waited for the midwife and the GYN to come. She wondered where Oak had been and when she'd see her again.

After moments of silence, after Ivory nervously darting her eyes at every corner and area of the room, after what felt like an infinity, the GYN and the midwife came.

The GYN was a middle aged woman who spoke calmly with Blue as the midwife had a rather .... unusual look. She sported what looked like small blue scales around her bright blue eyes. Ivory couldn't stop but look at the scales, as she assumed it was a rare skin condition. Then, she noticed that the woman had blue highlights in her hair. She looked at Blue's hair, and then turned to see the woman's scales and highlights.

Ivory's nerves worsened.

"Hi, Ivory, I'm doctor Fields," the GYN greeted herself. "Blue has told me you've been nauseous for a few weeks, and the last time you had intercourse was then. We think you're pregnant." She grabbed a clear gel and rubbed the cold substance onto Ivory's abdomen. "How old are you, Ivory? You look young."

"I'm 22," Ivory said. "I'm turning 23 this year."

"It's okay to be nervous," the GYN smiled. "This won't hurt a bit; your abdomen will feel cold from the gel. You may feel the probe though it will not hurt."

Ivory nodded and peered into the screen as the GYN moved the probe around her abdomen. Ivory's eyes widened as she saw a small figure in her stomach. She glanced at Blue, who smirked contently. Ivory rolled her eyes to herself; she hated Blue with a dying passion.

First, he stole her life, killed her loved ones, and now got her pregnant. She didn't know what to do besides wanting Lily to confide in.

The GYN smiled. "Congratulations! You're having a baby!"

The midwife was quiet at the end of the chair until now. She learned closer and said, "This will be a QUICK one," she grinned. "This baby will be out before you know it."

Ivory found the comment to be strange. "Around 8 months seems kinda long."

The midwife giggled and turned to Blue, who shook his head.

The midwife got out of her chair as the GYN pulled Blue to the side and spoke to him. Ivory noticed that the GYN kept conversations short and sweet with Ivory and kept her own health away from her. The GYN went to Blue with updates and about the baby.

"I want her to have the baby here," Blue said. "Just bring your doctors."

"Of course," the GYN nodded.

They didn't even ask Ivory what she wanted. She would much prefer a hospital; it seemed safer.

"She'll be safe; it will be quick." The GYN said.

The midwife stood over Ivory, "A quick pregnancy," she touched Ivory's stomach. "It will be a strong and healthy girl, I know it."

"Oh, are you a fortune teller?" Ivory asked.

The midwife smiled strangely. "Something like that."

Ivory couldn't stop staring at the strange scales around the lady's eyes.

Later that day, Ivory remained in bed being attended to by the chefs - Blue had ordered that they make her Chicken Noodle Soup because she had a hard time keeping anything down, and it would help with her stomach.

Four bowls of finished soup later, Ivory had fallen asleep in bed. She was brought back to the pregnancy room where she saw the child in her abdomen through the ultrasound, and she heard a voice whisper "Seraphyne."

Ivory heard the name repeated again and again, it was as if her child was speaking to her.

Suddenly, she woke up to see that the TV was off; she touched Blue's side to see that he was next to her. He gently pulled her over to him and began to rub her abdomen. She had began to fall asleep with the word on her tongue, and she kept hearing the voice of her unborn child; she knew it was the child speaking to her, she just didn't understand how it was.
