Chapter 32 - Missing People(draft)

It wasn't a problem when we're younger, but once we got older everything started to change.

We became distant and some of us started to detach from reality, things beyond our control started to interfere with our daily life and we began to change.

I finished eating some of the food that Kimo left and discarded my plate into the trash, Ryan scratching his head as he set his empty coffee cup to the side.

"Are you heading out?"

I nodded, "Yeah, there's some things, I need to take care of."

His eyes went over to Korian and then back to me, "Do you need any help?"

I clicked my tongue and shook my head, "I think I'm okay but thank you, Rye, just watch over Korian for me okay?"

He nods and walks over to give me a long hug, "Be careful, Rina, I know we haven't got together much since high-school but I am always here for you two, okay?"

I could feel my heart swell as the words sunk into my brain, my arms locking tight around Ryan's back as a tear slipped from my eyes.

"I know, it's been so long since we were all together, I miss us, so much."

I could feel tears drip down my back as he nodded, "I do too, we got so lost as we got older, I feel like we forgot about each other but I never did."

"Me neither." I stated as he laughed, "I wish we could stay like this forever, Rina."

"Me too, one day we will and we won't have to worry about anything else, I promise."

"You really do? Because I just want us to be okay, no matter how old we get, I don't want anyone else to disappear."

"Yeah, I will try to make sure no else disappears, Rye, we will be okay."

He gently lets go and wipes his tears, taking in a deep breath, "I trust you, just don't go disappearing on me, okay? I don't know how much more of this I can take."

I pat his shoulder, "Just hold on a little longer, in due time, Rye, due time."

He tilts his curly head to the side and smiles, "Okay, thanks, Rina."

"Anytime." I smile and awkwardly look at the door, I don't want to leave him, but I know I have some things to take care of.

"I know you got to go now, I will be here as long as I can, keep in touch okay?"

"I will."

I walk to the door and close it behind me, taking a deep breath trying to decide where to go first.

"Lillian." I whisper to myself, "I really need to get to him, but first I got to see if they are still at the scene."

I walk down the hallway and exit the building, the fresh smell of sea salt taking over the air and I know where I have to go.

My feet get to walking and I nearly bolt to the cave area, but I don't get to far before I'm stopped.

Police surround the area and yellow tape takes over, a few local cops and of course Sammie Lee and Doctor. Windstone.

Someone puts a hand in front of me, "Sorry, Serina, but this area in blocked off right now for investigation."

I glance around to see if anyone is wearing any headgear and one of the officers waves again, "Serina, hey, sorry but you'll have to head to the main part of the beach, this is closed off."

My eyes go back to the officer and I take a deep breath, "Temporary spell", I whisper and the officer tilts their head. "What did you say-"

I close my eyes and open them with a new sense of light, my nails sharp as I open my mouth about to sing.

"Serina?" I hear my name called but I can't waste anytime, just a temporary spell for a minute.

"🎵Everyone just go to sleep🎵." I let out a piercing belt that rushes through my head, a pink array of light flooding the scene sending everyone into a temporary sleep.

"Sorry." I whisper, pushing past the officer and the tape, watching as the other officers all stood in a paused state, the ocean waiting for me in the distance.

I blink back and walk toward the ocean, careful not to damage anymore of the investigation, seeming like I was in the all clear until I saw Dr.Windstone.

Staring, unaffected and my eyes went wide, he had planned this, or somehow knew.

Did he know about me the whole time or was he just pretending? I put him under a spell before, so why now did he choose to be carefull?

I shake my head, dashing toward the water, the cool blue hitting my lungs quickly shifting to my gills.

A glittery rose tail replacing my feet and scales covering my body, and even though so much is on my mind I have to focus on what's important, finding Lillian.

I swim over to where the wreck was and don't discover much, but there is a trace of something, black scales, Lillian's, a faint trail of them that leads over a few paces. Not much but it can lead me to something.

I pick up a few and look closer, it looks like it's been ripped or torn, I glance around, swimming into where he probably last was.

No body, which was weird, seeing how his call for help was loud enough to suspect at least an injury or two.

I flutter my ears and open my mouth, letting my song carry through the water, if Lillian is awake maybe he will respond back to it?

I sing a simple meoldy, letting my tail dance among the ocean, my hands to my chest as I call out a hypontic tune, but as I continue to sing nothing hits back. No cry for help or simple response.

I lean against part of the wreck and fold my arms, I could swim around but that could take a while, so what do I do?
