I looked to the side and around the room. The room had no clock.
"it's late isn't it?"
She nodded.
"Should we go check if they are getting dinner ready?"
She stood down from the bed and walked to the gate. "Let's!" she said with a slight smile.
I followed behind her.
She entered the dinning room first. It was empty. Then I followed her into the kitchen. Talor was there, cooking.
Talor looked over and smiled before looking back at the pot on the stove, "Sit at the dinning table. Dinner should be ready soon."
We sat at the dinning table in silence, sat right next to me. She'd occasionally glance toward me, but wouldn't say anything. After a few minutes Talor would bring the pot and put it on the table before going to get Carl. Then we had dinner together.
After dinner, I took Angel back to the bed room, and had her lay on a bed. She stared at me before asking, "Will you... stay today?"
I look back at the gate. "I'll be back in a minute." I say before going out of the room.
Talor was just getting out of the dinning room.
"Today no mutant should come right?" I asked.
He nodded, "That thing should keep them away for a few days."
He then smiles, "You should rest with her. I'll wake you up if you are needed."
I nod, before going back to Angel.
"I will."
I lay down on a bed next to her.
The next day came almost in an instant, no dream just a black void.
She was holding the edge of my collar. I slowly pulled her hand away, before sitting up straight. Carl and Talor were still asleep.
I went to the training room to stretch for an hour or so, before coming back to the main building.
Carl and Talor were at the dining table, just talking. I sat on the opposite side to them.
"Is she still asleep?" I asked.
Talor nodded.
Carl turned to me, before saying, "You were talking about something a civilian wouldn't know yesterday."
"Ohh... right." I turned to Talor, "Though you should know about it. You worked under Huang. You must have heard about the rumour of speciation in humans, right?"
"Rumour? His assistants barely knew about any research other than his own."
"Huh... Well its a rumour believed to be true by the military. Civilians weren't allowed to apply for military because of it. You needed a high ranking officer's recommendation."
"So that's why I was always rejected from military."
I nodded before continuing, "Major said, humans were separating into 3 groups. Military, scientists and civilians."
"Scientists? But anyone is allowed to get a phd." Talor asks.
"Hmm... the higher ups, said the military training can be lethal to civilians."
"But... why would even humans speciate?"
"Major once talked about it. After the modern dark age. The wild animals had gotten more aggressive, needing special training. The governments decided it was better to get the children of military to be trained into military, and that tradition just never stopped. Over time the training became harder and harder, and the weapons became more and more dangerous to use for civilians."
"And the scientists?"
"I... don't know about that. I'd think you would, but guess Huang was a little eccentric."
"The guy who never publicly showed his face is a little eccentric?"
"Fair point." I then turned to Carl, "You wanted to spar yesterday, do you still want to?"
He took a moment before answering, "I still want to. How else would I get to know where I stand compared to an actual soldier."
I nodded.
After another moment he asked, "Though why would they hide it from everyone."
"The higher ups said it was to avoid unrest. Though some said the scientist community wanted to prove it before releasing it to the public."
After a moment Talor said, "I'll go and prepare break fast, you should wake her up."
I nodded, as we both got out of the dining room.
When I entered the bed room, she was fidgeting on the bed, still asleep.
I held her hand, that seemed to calm her.
I couldn't help but stare at her face and long sky blue hair spread accros the bed.
I moved a strand of hair to the side of her face. I couldn't help but think back to how I used to wake her up. She'd be slightly grumpy but perk up on the mention of break fast.
I sighed and shook my head.
I held her shoulder shook her.
After a moment she slowly opened her eyes, looking at me.
"Y-you stayed."
"Uhh... yeah."
She smiled. It looked genuine for once.
"Were you having another nightmare."
She looked at me for a moment, before looking away and noding.
I hasitated for a moment before finally patting her head, "You shouldn't worry about."
"Umm..."
"Yes?"
"Lu-"
She looked away again, "Lullaby."
"Lullaby?"
"Would you sing one... to hel-help me sleep better?"
I stared at her for a moment, "I'm not that good at lullaby. Why not ask the others?"
"No... I want... you."
I closed my eyes, and nodded, "Fine then. I'll sing you one tonight."
She nodded, "Thank you. Looking forward to it."
"Anyways... Talor is making breakfast. We should go."
"Okay."
