No one moved.
The only sounds left were Melisca's low, continuous growls and the steady rhythm of two different breaths filling the enclosed space.
Ezekiel stood where he was. His eyes remained fixed on her.
Melisca stood several paces away, her massive frame lowered, her pale yellow eyes locked onto him. Her tail swayed lazily behind her as she continued to growl, every muscle in her body visibly tensed.
Neither of them made the first move.
Outside the cell, everyone watched through the bars without speaking. No one dared break the silence. The tension inside the room grew heavier with every passing second.
Then Melisca moved. One slow step. Her claws scraped softly against the damp stone floor.
Ezekiel adjusted his footing just enough to continue facing her.
