Hello All! If you're still here, about a year ago i asked if you would like a rewrite of this Fanfic to fix some of the major failure I made before. I have the first chapter below, it has become a 4k word long thing and the others are similarly long, Tell me what you think of this compared to the old first chapter. Its been 6 long Years. I have changed a lot and I'm sure many of you have too, this was in the back of my mind as something I need to complete and now I have the free time to do so. Nov.9, 2026 I will post another chapter here which will tell you all the name of the rewrite if you wanna continue this journey with me!
________________________________________________________________________
Hueco Mundo, also known as the Hollow World, was a desolate dimension that existed along side the World of the Living and Soul Society.
It was a realm of eternal night, where an endless desert of pale, white sand stretched beyond the horizon beneath a starless sky. High above, a solitary crescent moon hung motionless, bathing the barren landscape in its cold, silver light. Scattered throughout the wasteland were strange, petrified trees resembling enormous pine needles, their lifeless branches reaching toward the heavens.
Its inhabitants, known as Hollows, were creatures born from the souls of deceased humans who had lost their hearts to despair, regret, or an overwhelming attachment to their former lives. Driven by an insatiable hunger, these unfortunate souls wandered the realm, devouring one another in a desperate attempt to fill the emptiness within themselves.
For countless years, this cycle of consumption and evolution had continued without interruption.
And tonight, beneath the pale moonlight, another Hollow was about to be born.
However, this particular Hollow was somewhat unusual.
The soul from which it originated belonged to a young woman from modern-day Earth, someone whose death had been as sudden as it was ridiculous.
Deep within the vast desert, the thin strands of reishi suspended in the atmosphere began to stir.
At first, the disturbance was barely noticeable. A few grains of white sand lifted from the ground, spinning lazily in the air. However, as more spiritual particles converged upon the location, the disturbance gradually intensified.
Within moments, a miniature tornado had formed.
The surrounding reishi rushed toward its center, condensing into a brilliant sphere of white light. Inside the swirling vortex, the spiritual particles began taking shape, gradually forming what appeared to be a small, porcelain-white mask.
Two long ears extended from its crown, while a pair of hollow eye sockets and a tiny, triangular nose completed its peculiar appearance.
It was unmistakably the face of a rabbit.
As the mask solidified, the remaining reishi gathered beneath it, weaving together the creature's physical form.
A small, round body covered in soft, azure-blue fur emerged from the light. Four delicate paws formed beneath its torso, followed by a short, fluffy tail. In the center of its abdomen was a perfectly circular hole, an unmistakable characteristic of the Hollows.
Finally, two dark eyes flickered to life behind the mask, their depths illuminated by an ethereal blue glow.
The miniature Hollow landed gently upon the sand.
For several seconds, it remained perfectly still.
Then, its long ears twitched.
Its little head tilted forty-five degrees to the side as it surveyed its surroundings with an expression that could only be described as utter bewilderment.
'What the fuck is this?!'
That was the first thought to cross Layla's mind.
Just moments ago, or at least, what felt like moments ago, she had been an ordinary young woman living in New York City.
Her life had been painfully average.
Wake up early, endure the morning commute, work herself half to death, return to her apartment, eat whatever was available, sleep, and repeat.
It was the kind of monotonous existence that slowly drained a person's enthusiasm for living.
And yesterday had been no different.
After surviving another miserable day at work, Layla had been making her way back to her apartment, already fantasizing about taking a hot shower and collapsing into bed.
Unfortunately, fate apparently had other plans.
While jaywalking across a busy New York street, her heel had gotten caught in the opening of a manhole cover.
She stumbled.
Her ankle twisted.
And before she could free herself, the unmistakable sound of a truck horn erupted behind her.
HONK! HONK!
She barely had time to turn her head.
Then—
SPLAT!
Just like that, twenty-something years of existence came to an abrupt and rather undignified end.
'Holy shit! I'm dead!'
Layla's tiny body trembled as the memories came flooding back.
'Wait, no! I'm alive! Well, technically, I died, but I'm alive again! Does that even make sense?!'
She instinctively tried to raise her hands to her face, only to freeze when a pair of small, furry paws entered her vision.
"..."
An uncomfortable silence followed.
'Why do I have paws?'
She raised one.
Then the other.
She wiggled her tiny toes.
'Why the hell do I have paws?!'
A terrible suspicion began forming in her mind.
Slowly, Layla lowered her head and examined the rest of her body.
Bright cyan fur.
Four short legs.
A fluffy tail.
And, most disturbingly, a perfectly circular hole passing straight through her abdomen.
"..."
'Okay. That's definitely not normal.'
She cautiously poked the edge of the hole with one paw.
There was no pain, no blood, and seemingly no internal organs to speak of.
It was simply an empty space where a portion of her body should have been.
'What kind of sick joke is this?!'
Her first instinct was to panic, but something about her surroundings suddenly caught her attention.
The endless expanse of white sand.
The oppressive silence.
The starless night sky.
And that solitary crescent moon hanging overhead.
'Wait a minute...'
Her long ears stiffened.
'A dark sky without a single star... an endless white desert... and a crescent moon that looks like it was glued to the heavens...'
She slowly turned her head toward a cluster of strange, needle-like trees in the distance.
The moment she recognized them, her entire body went rigid.
'No way.'
She looked at the moon again.
Then the sand.
Then the trees.
'No fucking way!'
Her legs gave out, and she collapsed onto the sand like a discarded stuffed animal.
'THIS IS HUECO MUNDO!'
Of all the fictional worlds she could have been reincarnated into, she had somehow ended up in the universe of Bleach.
And not as a human.
Not as a Soul Reaper.
Not even as a Quincy.
She had been reincarnated as a Hollow.
'You've got to be kidding me!'
If reincarnation were a lottery, Layla felt as though she had somehow won the grand prize, only to discover that her ticket had been misprinted and was therefore completely worthless.
She had been given a second chance at life, but it came with one rather significant disadvantage.
She was now part of the food chain.
And judging by her current appearance, she was somewhere near the very bottom.
'Of all the things I could've become, why a Hollow?!'
Layla buried her masked face in the sand.
'I would've accepted being some random civilian in Soul Society! Hell, I would've been happy as a background character who never appeared in the story!'
Unfortunately, complaining wasn't going to change anything.
After several minutes of wallowing in self-pity, she finally raised her head.
'Alright, Layla. Think. Panicking isn't going to help.'
Although she was far from an expert on every aspect of Bleach lore, she remembered enough to understand just how dangerous her situation was.
'There are four major races in this universe: Humans, Soul Reapers, Quincies, and Hollows.'
Humans were generally the weakest, although certain individuals possessed extraordinary spiritual abilities.
Soul Reapers were practically the favored children of the setting. They possessed established organizations, powerful techniques, Zanpakutō, and countless opportunities to grow stronger.
Quincies, meanwhile, wielded abilities that could rival those of Soul Reapers, manipulating spiritual particles to form weapons and techniques capable of destroying Hollows completely.
And then there were the Hollows.
'We're basically the unwanted pests of the spiritual world.'
To ordinary humans, Hollows were terrifying monsters.
To Soul Reapers, they were threats that needed to be purified.
To Quincies, they were enemies that needed to be exterminated.
Even among their own kind, Hollows were constantly hunting and devouring one another.
'Seriously, what kind of terrible starting position is this?'
The worst part was their hunger.
Hollows were driven by a seemingly endless desire to consume souls, whether those souls belonged to humans, other Hollows, or spiritual beings.
No matter how much they devoured, the emptiness within them could never truly be filled.
'We're basically spiritual rodents. Everyone wants us dead, and we spend our entire existence trying to satisfy a hunger that never goes away.'
Layla glanced down at her tiny body.
'Although, considering I'm literally a rabbit, the rodent comparison feels a little too accurate.'
She sighed internally.
Still, there was one silver lining.
She hadn't noticed any overwhelming hunger yet.
Perhaps it was because she had only just been born, or perhaps her unusual circumstances had something to do with it.
Either way, she wasn't about to complain.
Turning her attention back toward the desert, Layla began organizing everything she remembered about Hueco Mundo.
'If I remember correctly, the surface is generally inhabited by smaller Hollows that can survive by absorbing the sparse reishi in the atmosphere.'
Her eyes narrowed.
'The more dangerous Hollows tend to gather beneath the surface, within the Forest of Menos and other regions where stronger spiritual beings reside.'
That was both good and bad news.
On one hand, she probably wouldn't encounter a Gillian or Adjuchas immediately.
On the other hand, even an ordinary Hollow could probably swallow her whole without much effort.
She was barely larger than an actual rabbit.
'The only law that matters here is strength.'
That realization settled heavily upon her.
There were no governments to protect her, no laws to uphold, and no sympathetic strangers willing to offer assistance.
In Hueco Mundo, weakness was practically a death sentence.
But then another thought occurred to her.
'Still... this is my second chance.'
She had already died once.
And although her previous life hadn't been particularly exciting, she had no intention of dying again before accomplishing anything worthwhile.
'I don't know why I was reincarnated here, and I certainly don't know what the future holds.'
Her blue eyes gradually sharpened with determination.
'But if this world only respects strength, then I'll just have to become strong enough that nobody can look down on me!'
The little rabbit Hollow rose to her feet.
'From what I remember, Hollows grow stronger by consuming souls. If I can survive long enough to evolve, I might eventually become a Menos, an Adjuchas, or even a Vasto Lorde!'
Her ears perked up.
'And if I can somehow become an Arrancar...'
A faint spark of excitement emerged within her.
The possibility was distant, perhaps even absurd, but it was still a possibility.
And right now, that was enough.
Just as Layla began considering how she might hunt her first prey, something unusual appeared at the edge of her vision.
A small, translucent symbol.
[+]
It hovered near the lower-left corner of her sight, remaining perfectly stationary regardless of where she turned her head.
"...?"
Layla blinked.
The symbol remained.
She tilted her head.
It still remained.
'What is that?'
Curiosity overcame her caution.
She focused her attention on the mysterious symbol.
And immediately—
DING!
DING!
DING!
A series of sharp, crystalline chimes reverberated throughout her consciousness.
'AH! WHAT NOW?!'
Before she could react, countless unfamiliar symbols flooded her vision.
Complex geometric patterns, intricate runes, and streams of incomprehensible characters appeared before her eyes, rapidly assembling into an enormous three-dimensional grid.
Thousands of luminous points flickered within the structure.
Some were connected by delicate threads of light, while others remained isolated, suspended within the seemingly endless network.
The entire formation resembled an impossibly complicated map of interconnected stars.
Layla stared in stunned silence.
'What the hell am I looking at?'
The symbols began moving faster.
Lines formed, dissolved, and reconnected.
Entire sections of the grid rearranged themselves, as though some invisible intelligence were attempting to construct something from the spiritual particles surrounding her.
Then, without warning, the grid collapsed inward.
A brilliant flash of blue light erupted before her.
When the radiance subsided, a small, translucent sphere hovered above the desert sand.
It was roughly the size of an apple, with a gelatinous appearance that made it resemble a floating blob of luminous blue jelly.
For a brief moment, it remained motionless.
Then it began absorbing reishi.
Violently.
The sparse spiritual particles scattered throughout the surrounding atmosphere surged toward the strange object.
What had initially been a gentle current quickly transformed into a raging torrent.
The sand beneath Layla's paws trembled as the surrounding spiritual energy was drawn toward the sphere.
Its glow intensified.
Pale blue became brilliant azure.
Brilliant azure became an almost blinding radiance.
Within seconds, the entire surrounding desert was illuminated as though a second moon had descended from the heavens.
But the light itself was not the most terrifying aspect of the phenomenon.
It was the pressure.
An immense, oppressive spiritual presence radiated from the sphere, spreading outward across the barren landscape.
It was neither hostile nor benevolent.
Rather, it possessed an indescribable quality that made the surrounding reishi seem to tremble in submission.
Layla could only stare.
'What... what is this thing?'
She instinctively took a step backward.
The sphere continued absorbing spiritual particles, seemingly indifferent to her confusion.
Far away, deep within a massive fortress of white stone, an elderly man suddenly opened his eyes.
His weathered body was covered in scars, each one a testament to countless battles fought throughout his long existence.
A white coat rested upon his broad shoulders, with the number 1 prominently displayed upon its back.
For several seconds, the old man remained motionless.
Then his gaze shifted toward the distant desert.
His expression remained stern, but a faint trace of curiosity flickered within his eyes.
"...Hm?"
He could sense something.
A spiritual disturbance unlike anything he had encountered in recent memory.
It had appeared suddenly, radiating an extraordinary pressure before beginning to disappear just as quickly.
The old man narrowed his eyes.
After a moment of contemplation, he released a low grunt.
"Hmph."
Whatever it was, it did not appear to warrant his immediate attention.
He closed his eyes once more, returning to his previous duties.
Meanwhile, back in the desert, the phenomenon had finally begun to subside.
The violent currents of reishi gradually weakened.
The oppressive pressure dissipated.
And the brilliant sphere of blue light slowly descended toward Layla.
'Wait... why is it coming toward me?'
She backed away.
The sphere followed.
'Hold on!'
It moved closer.
'WAIT A DAMN MINUTE!'
Before she could escape, the sphere accelerated and plunged directly into her chest.
There was no impact.
No pain.
Instead, a wave of soothing warmth spread throughout her small body as the mysterious object dissolved into countless particles of blue light.
The particles flowed through her spiritual form, merging with her very existence.
Then, just as suddenly as everything had begun, the desert returned to silence.
"..."
Layla stood completely still.
'Did... did I just get possessed?'
A moment later, a cheerful voice rang out inside her head.
[Activation of the Spirit Matrix complete!]
[Synchronization successful!]
[Greetings, Host! My name is Zuex, and I will be serving as your personal guide!]
The voice sounded remarkably young, like that of a cheerful little boy.
Despite its sudden appearance, there was something strangely comforting about it.
Its tone was gentle, clear, and filled with an infectious enthusiasm that made Layla instinctively relax.
[You may direct any questions toward me, and I will assist you to the best of my abilities!]
Layla blinked.
Once.
Twice.
Then a third time.
'...A system?'
She stared blankly at the empty space before her.
'I got reincarnated into Bleach... as a Hollow... and now I have a system?'
Her thoughts briefly descended into chaos.
Just when she had finally begun accepting her miserable circumstances, the universe had apparently decided to throw another surprise at her.
However, unlike the previous surprises, this one might actually be beneficial.
Very beneficial.
'Could this be... my golden finger?'
Having consumed more than her fair share of reincarnation novels, Layla was intimately familiar with the concept.
An extraordinary ability granted to an otherwise ordinary protagonist, allowing them to overcome seemingly impossible obstacles.
Sometimes it took the form of a mysterious artifact.
Sometimes it was an ancient inheritance.
And sometimes it was a system.
'Please tell me this is what I think it is!'
Trying to suppress her growing excitement, Layla cautiously addressed the voice.
"Um... Zuex?"
[Yes, Host?]
"So, what exactly is this Spirit Matrix?"
There was no hesitation in the response.
[An excellent question!]
[The Spirit Matrix is an innate spiritual framework that assists Hollows in understanding and directing their growth. Every Hollow possesses the potential to advance toward higher stages of existence, but the manifestation of the Matrix varies according to the individual's intelligence and spiritual development.]
[Because you possess an unusually advanced level of intelligence for a newly born Hollow, I was created as an interactive guide to help you understand and utilize its functions!]
Layla's ears twitched.
"So every Hollow has one of these?"
[Correct! However, most Hollows possess only rudimentary manifestations of the Spirit Matrix. They instinctively understand their hunger and the need to grow stronger, but lack the intelligence required to consciously interpret their development.]
[Your Spirit Matrix, on the other hand, possesses a fully developed interface and an independent guide—me!]
Zuex sounded rather proud of that last statement.
Layla couldn't help but feel amused.
"So you're basically the upgraded version?"
[Precisely! Although I would prefer the term 'exceptionally advanced!']
"Heh. Alright, exceptionally advanced it is."
[Thank you, Host!]
The little voice sounded genuinely delighted.
Layla smiled inwardly.
'Well, at least he's friendly.'
She quickly returned to the matter at hand.
"Then what exactly can the Spirit Matrix do for me?"
[The Spirit Matrix possesses two primary functions: Advancement and Evolution!]
[Advancement allows you to quantify your spiritual growth, measure the souls and spiritual energy required to reach higher classifications, and monitor your overall combat potential.]
[Evolution, however, is considerably more interesting!]
Layla's eyes brightened.
"More interesting how?"
[Through Evolution, you can fundamentally alter and improve your spiritual constitution, acquiring new traits, characteristics, and abilities that would otherwise be unavailable to your current form!]
"..."
Layla needed a moment to process that.
"Wait. So you're saying I can actually change what kind of Hollow I am?"
[That is correct!]
Her heartbeat—assuming she still possessed one—seemed to accelerate.
"Okay, hold on. Before we get into that, explain the difference between Advancement and Evolution in more detail."
[Of course!]
A translucent blue screen materialized before her eyes.

Layla stared at the screen.
'Wow. That's actually pretty convenient.'
Zuex continued his explanation.
[Hollow development is divided into six major classifications within the Spirit Matrix.]
[The first is Fledgling, which represents newly born Hollows with minimal spiritual power.]
[The second is Hollow Grande, representing ordinary Hollows that have accumulated sufficient spiritual energy to surpass their initial limitations.]
[Beyond that are the Menos classifications: Gillian, Adjuchas, and Vasto Lorde.]
[Finally, there is Arrancar, a special classification achieved by Hollows that remove their masks and acquire powers resembling those of Soul Reapers.]
[These classifications are arranged according to the general progression of Hollow combat potential, although individual strength may vary considerably.]
Layla nodded thoughtfully.
'So Fledgling and Hollow Grande are subdivisions used by the Matrix. That makes sense.'
She already knew about the Menos classifications.
Gillian were enormous Hollows generally formed through the fusion of numerous souls.
Adjuchas were considerably smaller, more intelligent, and far more dangerous.
Vasto Lorde represented the pinnacle of natural Menos evolution, possessing tremendous spiritual power.
Arrancar, meanwhile, were Hollows that had transcended certain limitations of their original forms by removing their masks.
But what interested Layla most wasn't the classifications themselves.
It was the distinction between Advancement and Evolution.
"So Advancement increases my overall strength and allows me to reach higher classifications?"
[Correct!]
"And Evolution?"
[Evolution allows you to modify the fundamental characteristics of your spiritual body!]
Zuex's voice became noticeably more animated.
[Although Hollows originate from human souls, their spiritual forms possess extraordinary adaptability. Unlike ordinary physical organisms, Hollows are not strictly limited by conventional biological inheritance.]
[By consuming other spiritual beings, you can acquire fragments of their spiritual essence. Under normal circumstances, these fragments are absorbed and converted into raw spiritual power.]
[However, the Spirit Matrix allows you to isolate, preserve, and integrate certain desirable characteristics from those fragments!]
Layla's eyes widened.
"Wait... are you saying I can steal other Hollows' abilities?"
[Not exactly! You can acquire compatible traits and use them to develop new abilities of your own. The distinction is important!]
"How so?"
[Acquiring a trait does not necessarily grant you the complete abilities of its original owner. Instead, it provides the foundation from which similar or entirely new abilities can develop.]
[Furthermore, the Spirit Matrix can combine compatible characteristics to produce unique evolutionary outcomes!]
Layla fell silent.
Her mind was already racing.
'So it's not just a leveling system.'
She looked down at her small paws.
'It's something much more ridiculous.'
Still, she wanted a concrete example.
"Zuex, you're being a little vague. Can you explain Evolution using my current body?"
[Certainly!]
[At present, you are classified as a Mammalian-Type Hollow, specifically a Rabbit-Type Hollow.]
[Your spiritual constitution is extremely basic. You possess no unique traits, no specialized abilities, and no extraordinary physical characteristics beyond those naturally associated with your current form.]
"..."
Layla felt personally attacked.
"Okay, you don't have to rub it in."
[My apologies, Host! I was merely stating your current characteristics!]
"Yeah, yeah. Continue."
[For example, suppose you encounter a Reptilian-Type Hollow possessing exceptionally durable scales.]
[If you defeat and consume that Hollow, the Spirit Matrix can analyze its spiritual essence and extract the characteristics responsible for its natural defenses.]
[Through Evolution, you could then integrate those characteristics into your own spiritual constitution.]
Layla's ears stood straight up.
"So I could grow scales?"
[Potentially! However, that would be only one possible outcome.]
[You could also develop reinforced skin, enhanced resistance to physical attacks, or an entirely new defensive characteristic derived from the original trait.]
[The final result would depend upon the quality of the absorbed essence, your existing constitution, and the evolutionary direction you select.]
"..."
Layla was beginning to understand.
"And if I devoured a Hollow with wings?"
[You could potentially acquire the characteristics necessary for flight!]
"What about one that could regenerate?"
[You could develop regenerative capabilities, provided the absorbed essence was sufficiently compatible!]
"What if I ate a Hollow that could breathe fire?"
[You could potentially develop an affinity for flame-based spiritual attacks!]
Layla's breathing grew increasingly rapid.
"And what if I absorbed all three?"
[Then the Spirit Matrix would attempt to integrate all three characteristics into your spiritual constitution, assuming sufficient compatibility and evolutionary resources!]
"..."
A long silence followed.
The little rabbit stood completely motionless beneath the moonlight.
Then, very slowly, her eyes began to shine.
'Holy shit.'
She had originally assumed her reincarnation as a Hollow was a terrible stroke of luck.
But now?
Now she was beginning to see the possibilities.
Hollows were already creatures capable of extraordinary evolution.
Some possessed immense physical strength.
Others could manipulate elemental attacks, regenerate lost limbs, develop nearly impenetrable defenses, or wield bizarre abilities that defied conventional logic.
And if the Spirit Matrix could truly allow her to acquire and combine those characteristics...
'Doesn't that mean I could eventually create a Hollow with abilities that no other Hollow has ever possessed?'
Her thoughts grew increasingly ambitious.
'And Zuex said Evolution isn't limited to Hollow abilities...'
That particular detail had not escaped her attention.
She narrowed her eyes.
"Zuex, earlier you mentioned that Evolution isn't restricted to Hollow characteristics."
[That is correct!]
"Does that mean I could potentially acquire characteristics from other spiritual races?"
[Yes! Although the compatibility requirements would be considerably more demanding, the Spirit Matrix is not inherently restricted to Hollow-derived spiritual traits.]
[As long as an appropriate spiritual essence can be obtained, analyzed, and successfully integrated, Evolution remains theoretically possible!]
Layla froze.
Her mind immediately jumped toward several extremely dangerous possibilities.
Soul Reaper abilities.
Quincy techniques.
Unique spiritual constitutions.
Even the extraordinary powers possessed by certain beings that stood at the very peak of the Bleach universe.
Of course, there was an enormous difference between theoretical possibility and actually accomplishing such a feat.
She was still a tiny rabbit Hollow, after all.
A particularly ambitious rabbit Hollow, but a rabbit nonetheless.
Still...
The potential was there.
And that changed everything.
'So I don't necessarily have to follow the conventional path of Hollow evolution.'
Her tiny paws pressed firmly into the sand.
'I can create my own path.'
The more she considered it, the more excited she became.
What had initially seemed like a hopeless second life was suddenly filled with possibilities.
She could evolve.
She could grow stronger.
She could acquire abilities that ordinary Hollows could only dream of possessing.
And perhaps, one day, she could reach a level where even the strongest beings in the spiritual world would have to acknowledge her existence.
Layla slowly raised her head toward the crescent moon.
A strange sense of anticipation welled up within her.
'I take it back.'
Her long ears twitched happily.
'Maybe becoming a Hollow wasn't such a terrible thing after all.'
She glanced at the Spirit Matrix hovering before her.
Then she looked toward the endless desert, where countless Hollows wandered, fought, and devoured one another beneath the eternal night.
To most inhabitants of Hueco Mundo, the desert was an unforgiving wasteland where survival was a constant struggle.
But to Layla, it had suddenly become something entirely different.
A land of opportunity.
A place where every enemy represented another possibility for growth.
And where every successful evolution could bring her one step closer to the pinnacle of existence.
A delighted laugh echoed within her mind.
'Hehehe...'
Then, with all the excitement of someone who had just discovered an unlimited credit card, Layla arrived at one simple conclusion.
'JACKPOT!'
