The sky was cloudy that fretful day. No one thought anything of it. The sky was always cloudy to some degree.
Mayce knew he saw something on that cloudy night, a streak of light in the sky, far off in the distance. He saw it clear as day, despite the clouds. It was such a beautiful purple amongst the dark silvery shade of the clouds.
The streak of light seemed to fall from the sky, pulled by some invisible force towards the lands below.
Six year old Mayce could never hope to guess where the light fell, as it fell beyond the hill that obfuscated his view.
A stray thought crossed Mayce's mind as he watched it fall beyond his view. "Such a pretty soul. I wonder who they will be."
Mayce couldn't explain to anyone why he knew it was a soul, not that anyone believed he saw anything that day with dark clouds that stretched beyond their horizons.
Mayce knew without a doubt he knew what he saw.
When the Shaktaran lady came to the village not but 4 years later, a child in tow, he felt an itch in his memory.
