As soon as he logged in, Christian found that everything was black around him and that he felt nothing. Not his body, not the air, not the ground, not even gravity. There was only darkness and the absence of anything.
Christian looked around, or at least he thought he looked around, he couldn't even sense himself, until he saw a pinprick of light. That light, upon further inspection, started to grow. It grew until it covered all of what Christian could see, or sense, he still couldn't tell.
Finally, after what felt like minutes or eons of just sitting in utter darkness and utter, blinding light, Christian finally felt his feet touch the ground. Sensation returned and the light dimmed, placing Christian in a chamber. A wide, marble chamber that only had a simple dais holding a floating sphere. As Christian walked up to the sphere with a cold, almost detached look, the sphere emitted a light, and with it, a message panel floated in front of Christian.
[Greetings player, what is your name?]
Christian took one look at this prompt and said in a flat voice, "You can call me Sanguinein, System." To which the Game System replied back in seemingly the same deadpan and flat tone.
[Choose your class, player Sanguinein]
In which a panel then appeared displaying five classes that all looked bland and basic, nothing like what the trailers and game page had described the classes to be.
[Do take to heart, these are just the basic classes, what you do with them and your actions throughout the game will shape how your class changes. These are merely the mold for your future.]
With those words, Christian merely smiled coldly, took one look at the five classes; Warrior, Mage, Rouge, Ranger, and Support, and chose the Warrior class without a second thought. He had always been one to play berserkers and frontline fighters in whatever MMO he played, and this would be no different. Something about how the blood sprayed from his enemies with every swing of his arms just hit him the right way. And now that he could do so in the flesh, he couldn't hold back his sadistic excitement.
[Now, Warrior Sanguinein, you have two starter skills; Slash and Block. Do you wish to delete one, or both, of these skills? If you do so, you will be granted a reward equaling the value of the skill.]
Christian raised his eyebrow. He'd never heard of a game that allowed you to delete starter skills right off the bat. Wasn't it believed that the more skills you had in your arsenal, the better off you were? Especially in early game when every skill mattered do to having so little. But, Christian saw this as an opportunity. Since he always played the berserker type class, he never really saw the point in take type skills. So if the game was allowing him to erase such a skill for free now, even coming with an incentive, then he would happily do so. "System, remove Block."
As his flat voice resounded, the System gave a simple confirmation panel, in which Christian agreed to, and deleted Block from Christian's skill list.
[Due to the removal of a skill, the System will now grant you a corresponding reward. Deciding reward... Reward Decided. You are given a Unique Growth weapon. Please state what type of weapon you'd like.]
"A mace, please." Christian stated with mild intrigue. A unique Growth weapon. Now that was good. Everyone knew that anything unique was good, and anything that could grow was also good. Now a weapon that was both unique to him And could grow? That's just icing on the cake for him. As for why he chose a mace? Well so that he could feel his enemies' bodies crunch under each and every swing. Turning into flat, meaty pancakes, or just broken dolls along his path.
[Confirmed. Choose two defining traits for your weapon.]
Traits, yes, the very things that could make or break a piece of gear in any game. even if the gear was many times better than your own in base stats, if it had shitty bonus traits, then it was nothing more than whiteboard trash. So Christian had to choose carefully his traits, oh who was he kidding. Christian's traits for his club were decided upon quickly, without even a second thought even. "Lifesteal and Shield." His voice wasn't hesitant, it was firm, cold, but firm. A berserker needed lifesteal to pair along with his lifedraining skills, and a shield never hurt to have so that he could regain his health while his enemies struck uselessly at his shield.
[Lifesteal and Shield confirmed. Do you wish for your mace to be one-handed or two-handed?]
Christian just snorted, a derisive look crossing his face as a condensing tone left his mouth. "If I got rid of Block, what makes you think I want something in my off-hand?" It was true, he followed the path of a berserker, there was no need for one-handed weapons to even be mentioned in front of him. And the System, in an almost human like laugh responded.
[Indeed, why would you need an off-hand? Two-handed weapon confirmed. please hold out your hands and call for your weapon.]
And, like a kid receiving candy, Christian excitedly held out his hands and called out in a frenzied voice, a sadistic smile splitting his face. "Come to me, Enhellion!" And clasped his hands around a shaft that seemed to materialize from nowhere. In his hands now rested a two-meter-tall mace. Pure black metal coating it, seeming to draw in the light around it as veins of blood red ran along its shaft and, at the top, a rectangle shaped head sat. The rectangle head was protruding four curved blade-like crescents along it's edges that were pure red. As if the veins trailing the shaft came from these crescents.
After taking hold of the weapon, a status panel appeared in front of Christian, and unlike what he hoped, this was not Enhellion's status panel, it was his.
[Player Name: Sanguinein
HP: 100/100
SP: 100/100
STR: 10
VIT: 10
AGI: 10
INT: 10
WIS: 10
Free Stat Points: 10]
[Please distribute your Free Stat Points, Warrior Sanguinein]
Christian took a look at the panel. Due to the trailers and game page, he knew what each stat represented and what they did initially. The company had said that these numbers would change with his class and other factors. STR was strength, it boosted mainly the damage of strength based classes like warrior, boosting it by 5 per point. It also slightly boosted HP after the initial 10 points by 10 per point. VIT was vitality, and like in most games, it boosted HP and defense, as well as max stamina for warriors and other physical classes. HP by 10 per point, defense by 1, and SP by 10. AGI was agility and it boosted both movement and attack speed as well as agility based classes' damage. Damage by 5, movement speed by .2 meters per second, and attack speed by .01 attack per second. INT was intelligence and it boosted max mana and damage for magic based classes. Damage by 5 per point and MP by 10 per point. WIS is wisdom and it boosted mana and stamina regen as well as mana past the first 10 points. Regen is boosted by .1 per second and MP is boosted by 10. HP, MP, and SP are self explanatory simply representing health, mana, and stamina. Health is your life points, it empties, you die. And mana and stamina are just resources to cast your skills.
Christian took a simple glance across the page, saw his 10 points of stats, and promptly dropped 8 in strength and the last 2 in vitality. Pure strength berserker with just enough HP not to get one shot. After that, the System chimed one last farewell with the old, cold voice.
[Every procedure is done, transporting Warrior Sanguinein into the World of Vanhella. Have a life filled with infinite possibilities.]
