Chapter 5 - Chapter 4 - I need your help

"She's avoiding me, isn't she?" Demi sighed as he sat down on his bed, using his hands to wipe his hair with a towel. He had finally finished shopping for some necessary furniture and items and doing some household chores. After all that, he took a long, refreshing shower and had just finished.

"Even though she promised me to lunch?" Nova had been avoiding him these past few days. In the beginning she had excuses which he could believe but, in a while, they started to feel unrealistic and now she had finally begun to avoid meeting him itself. He wasn't even able to get a proper hold of her.

"Was I really too much that day?" He fell back on his bed, thinking about what could have made her avoid him.

The reason Nova was avoiding him was because of what had transpired, a few days ago, when they had reached back from that lunch they had together. When they were in front of their doors, Demi was going to wish her goodbye but that's when he noticed Nova type something on her phone. She was smiling as she typed and he wanted to see what was making her flash one of her beautiful smiles. At a phone screen, that too.

He bent in closer and read the name at the top. It said, Raymond. Nova was frightened by the sudden breathing by her neck and jumped. She turned to face him, her back against her door. She was blushing and she stared at Demi, shyly. "Um...Is there anything you-"

Demi's heart sped up. All he could think of at that moment, was a Japanese classic move, the KABE-DON! He looked away too see if anyone was coming and when he looked back at Nova, she was back to texting. It was perfect. He could grab her attention, from whoever she was texting to, with a kabe-don!

But then he noticed what she was typing. His eyes grew serious and he slammed the wall in irritation. "You...Are you from St. Anthony's Care for Children? That orphanage?"

Nova gulped. The orphanage's name was a famous one because of many things, especially because of the rumour, that it was housing and raising a demon. Nova knew she could lie out of this but she didn't. "I'm from that orphanage. Why, is there any problem?"

"When did you join? How old were you when you joined?" Demi inquired in a rush.

"I was three years when I joined so that's fifteen years ago." Nova lied, coldly. She didn't like how Demi's behaviour changed so suddenly, since he learned she's from there. Demi let out a sigh of relief.

"Thank god!" He brought his face closer to hers. "I have a favour to ask of you."

"What?" Nova wasn't going to be swayed by his face this time. He had revealed his true colours already.

Demi was really happy. Most of the rumours had pointed to a fact that the baby from the hospital, 17 years ago, was mostly staying at the orphanage but since Nova was brought in when she was 3, it meant that she wasn't the Half-demon. But it also meant that she might know who it actually is.

Demi bent low and whispered in her ears. "Please go out with me." It was two birds with one stone, not only he'd be able to go out with Nova but he'd also be able to visit the orphanage if he asked her. Nova pushed him away from her.

"You bastard! You like someone but you want to go out with me? I can't believe I almost fell for someone like you." Nova opened her apartments door.

"Wait, Nova! You got it all-" Nova slammed the door shut. "Wrong. You've got it wrong." Demi slumped to the floor. His plan broke into pieces and now he couldn't even get close to her. But his heart thumped. 'Did she say she almost fell for me?'

Nova leaned on her door once she shut it. 'What was that?' She asked herself.

'Please go out with me.' The sentence kept ringing in her head and she blushed. Could be that he actually liked her all along? Nah. That was be impossible. When he talked about the girl he liked, it didn't sound like he was talking about Nova at all.

So, that was what had happened. And ever since that day, Demi would always roll on his bed, wallowing in self-hatred, because of his actions. He was rolling on the bed, today as well, and that's when he got an idea. He quickly got up and ran out of his room. Without any further ado, he knocked on Nova's door.

"Coming!" A faint voice said from the inside. Demi hopped from one foot to the other. He was excited because he knew his plan would work. Nova was smiling when she opened the door but it turned into a frown when she saw Demi. "What do you want?"

"I... I need your help!" Demi huffed out. It sounded like he really need help but of a mental patient's doctor and Nova wasn't one. She contemplated on whether to shut the door on his face or not. But she couldn't. Even though she vowed she wouldn't fall for his face, it was quite hard to keep up that promise she made to herself because she found herself letting Demi in. All because of ONE pout.

Demi knew that, to make his plan work, he had to make her understand why he was irritated by telling her the truth.

Nova handed him a glass of water. She couldn't help but notice that Demi's hair was wet and that it made him look better. "So, what do you need my help with?" Demi smiled at her. "I'll have to tell you a story before that. Do mind listening?" Nova nodded as she sat opposite to him.

"Long ago, there was a demon," Nova panicked and her heart sped up, anxiously. 'Did he find out?' Nova feared for the worst as Demi continued. The thoughts as to why he knew about demons hadn't hit her as of yet.

"He massacred whatever he could, whenever he could and wherever he could too. He granted the most bloodiest wishes of the people who summoned him and one day, he was summoned to massacre my family." Demi was serious. He was leaving some important parts out and had changed some major things as well because, obviously, he couldn't trust Nova. She was still a suspect even thought her chances of being a Half-demon was reducing.

Demi stopped. He was being NAIVE. Nova could have easily lied to him about everything she had said, just like how he was manipulating his own stories. Demi laughed. He laughed at his own naive thinking. He was so blind in 'love' he had forgotten his main aim. Nova looked at him, confused.

When Demi stopped laughed, he faced Nova, who was shocked looking at his expression. He was smiling sadly. 'Why won't you somehow guarantee that you are not what I think you are?' Demi sighed. "I'm sorry."

Nova shook her head. "No, it's alright. Everything's been so hard on you. You should relax once in a while."

"But do let me finish. After I survived from being massacred like my family, I began to hunt demons. Especially Half-demons and High-level demons, since they are not only powerful, they can live even in the human realm easily, disguised. The demon who massacred my family was a Half-demon, he called himself-"

"Prince Vassago, the son of Mammon, the devil of greed." Nova held her mouth in shock. 'Eh?' How did she know that?'

Demi's eyes widened as he grabbed her hands. "If you know anything, please tell me. Please." She knew something. Demi had been searching for clues all his life and she knew something!

Nova had no idea why she knew that. She just knew it. It was like those unnecessary pieces of information floating around in the back of your head that come to mind when you need them.

"I... I-" She stayed silent. Demi knew he couldn't force her out. He let go of her and sat back down. "Just....Just tell me when you think you can, okay? Till then, will you take me to your orphanage, please? I know I'll get some clues there! Please! You know something, right? You know the rumour's too, right?" His voice was dark for a moment. "That's why I need your help. Take me there."

Nova couldn't decline. If she did, it would seem like she wanted to hide something but if she took him, there was a chance he would find more clues that pointed to her being the Half-demon. And she couldn't never let that happen. But since the orphanage was a place open to everyone, she couldn't even use the excuse that visitors are not allowed inside it.

Demi stared at her. His suspicion of her would vary, depending on her answer. Obviously, he could have gone alone, but going with Nova was even better. It would help in confirming if it was Nova or someone else. Plus he would get to spend some quality time with her! Literally two birds with one stone! Wasn't he a genius?

Nova grinned and gave him a thumbs up. "Obviously, I can do that much."

Demi grinned back. Nova was beginning to get anxious, but she felt her plan could work out. Hopefully.

"So, um... I remember you saying something about almost falling for m-" Demi smirked. Nova threw a pillow at him.

"If you take up that topic again, you can forget about visiting the orphanage." Demi grinned looking at her back as she got up to make some snacks. Her ears were burning red.

"Yes, sir!" Demi said and Nova laughed. "Good."
