This eerie tranquility continued as the Lizard Maid slowly trimmed the estate's bushes, until a shadow slipped by the edge, prompting her protruding eyes, covered in a tough nictitating membrane, to follow the silently flowing shadow with her lamp.
Like a lurking black mist, the shadow had a clear objective. It hid itself using the bushes and corners, evading the Lizard Maid along the way, and slipped into the manor.
Only the initial Lizard Maid noticed it and followed it into the manor.
The shadow flashed across the corner of the second-floor staircase, entering the upper floor, where it saw a slender black shadow pulling down the door handle, entering the master's bedroom.
