The entire reception office of Charterton Valley High School is in total disarray. Computer papers flutter and other office supplies are scattered everywhere. Burn marks along the carpet and walls where an electrical outlet once was. All the adults' eyes lock on two students Felicia and Daisy, and Benimaru, the strange young man who looks like a foreigner to the school staff and is definitely not a member of this school.
Having heard the commotion, a few teachers from classrooms down the hall and one security guard rush onto the scene and are shocked find the office in such condition. When they ask what has happened, fingers point in the Felicia, Daisy, and Benimaru's direction as the receptionists and Principal shout their accusations.
"I don't get it, but somehow they made this office look like a war zone!" one receptionist says.
"Everything was perfectly fine until these students and that strange man showed up!" another says.
"But I don't understand," a man teacher with a black beard and thin rectangular glasses says, "Are you saying they just barged in here and made all this mess right in front of you? Also, how did this young man get passed our school security?"
"It matters not!" the Principal says, "Throw them out, immediately! All of them!"
Something's not quite right here… Felicia thinks to herself. She knows for a fact that the Principal himself allowed her to attend school here, and after only one measly incident he decides to kick her out on day one? That's when she notices more movement from where the imp creature stands, wiggling his red glittering clawed fingers slowly as if trying to pry into something very fragile. The glitter in his claws is definitely magic at play. A mind-controlling spell cast upon these poor people.
But just as she is about to use her wand to counter it, she is apprehended by the security guard who approaches her silently and swiftly from behind. He grabs her wrists and forces them behind her back, the cracks in her joints making her drop her wand.
Daisy covers her mouth and is wide-eyed at this scene.
Oh jeez, how the hell are we gonna get outta this one? Benimaru thinks inside his mind as he slaps one hand against his forehead. The same thought runs through Reynardo's mind as his little beady eyes sneak a peek through the opening in Felicia's schoolbag, trying not to be seen.
All of a sudden, a strong gust of violet glimmering wind encircles within the reception office. More gusts follow, and they swirl around and around, getting faster like a tornado. These winds tighten into a singularity; one spot on the floor in between where Felicia, Daisy, and Benimaru are standing and the receptionists' desks that the brainwashed adults stand behind. It soon becomes a true twister, sparking up purple lightning and roaring like thunder. Thorns flash on the lightning, and they grow bigger and longer until the lightning stops fading away after its initial light-up. When it all dies down and the twister ceases to be, from the eye of this storm now stands a prestigious-looking man with dirty blonde shoulder-length hair and a rugged jaw. His long black trench coat flutters behind him as the winds loose their strength, and in one hand he holds his chestnut brown bear-tip wand.
"What just happened?!" a teacher from out in the hallway asks.
"Who is this now?!" the security guard asks.
"What are you doing here, Sir?" Benimaru asks the man casually since he has known him for years now.
He stands facing the brainwashed adults at first, as if trying to protect the kids they were accusing. His first priority is clear. With just one glance at the imp creature now trying to make a break for it, the man's magic quickly overwhelms the imp's inferior molecular structure. It implodes in on itself without the mess of blood or guts.
The adults that have been under its mind-controlling spell suddenly feel dizzy and disoriented, in a daze. Almost like empty shells of people, as their minds are re-setting themselves upon being freed from the dark magic.
Sensing there is danger afoot, the security guard lets go of Felicia and points his taser at the man. "Freeze! Don't move! I don't know how you did what you just did, but you still entered a private school grounds without permission! You'll have to answer to the police for your—"
The man flashes a glance toward the security guard before he can finish his sentence. A glow of purple light in his eyes filled with magic directs its way to the security guard, wiping his memory clean of this incident and making his body turn around, walk out the door, and return to his usual patrol. He does the same on the few teachers witnessing from the hallway, and they go back to their classrooms where their students don't exactly await their return.
Once all the witnesses are either gone or temporarily incapacitated, the man turns to Felicia and asks her, "So, I trust your first day of school is going smoothly otherwise, dear?"
Felicia huffs an annoyed scoff but smiles at the same time. She reaches toward her wand still on the floor and it flies back into her hand. "I've certainly been through worse than this, don't you agree, Dad?" she says.
"Hold on, that's your father?!" Daisy asks. "Then you really are some kind of magical girl!" Her eyes light up like stars with excitement.
"Not quite, I'm a sorcerer."
"And it's a lot more complicated than that, if you ask me," Benimaru says ominously, dusting himself off from the crumbs and dust bunnies that got on his slick black coat from all that wind.
"Speaking of which, I need to have a friendly little chat with you," Felicia's father suddenly approaches Benimaru with a creepy grin on his face like he's got a sinister plan in store for the young bodyguard. Then he turns to his daughter and says, "Hope you don't mind if I borrow him for a short while. I'll entrust Felicia's safety for the remainder of the day to you, Reynardo. Can you handle it?"
"Y-Yes sir!" Reynardo abruptly pokes his head out of Felicia's schoolbag for a brief moment.
"Splendid. We'll see you soon," Felicia's father then grabs Benimaru's arm as though he's escorting his mistress around town. He taps the bottom of his bear-tip wand on the ground twice, and his magic swirls and twirls up again, stirring with intense power unlike anything the average person can comprehend. Dark purple thorns wrap around the two men like another twister. It only lasts ten seconds, and by the time this wonderful display of magic ceases, they have disappeared.
"Um, where'd they go?" Daisy asks.
"Beats me," Felicia says as she exits the reception office, "In any case, isn't almost lunch hour? I'm positively famished!"
"Huh?! But aren't you worried about what your father might do to your boyfriend back there?" Daisy follows after her, just in time too, as the receptionists and Principal are coming out of their daze.
Felicia bursts out in laughter upon hearing that word. She holds onto her belly and grabs her head before it reels backward. Her laughter is uncontrollable. "Boyfriend?! Ho, the imagination you have!" she pats Daisy's head like petting a dog, "As if a guy like him could get with any of this," she gestures to her entire body while posing like a supermodel.
"But if he's not your boyfriend, what is he to you, then?"
"Simple. He's my bodyguard."
"Bodyguard? From what?"
"I wouldn't bother being concerned about it. My dad needs Benimaru around just as much Benimaru needs this job."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Hey, I said don't worry 'bout it. C'mon, let's get ready for lunch now!"
"But it's barely ten-thirty yet!" Daisy chases Felicia down the empty hallways.
