From the moment Anthony mentioned "black smoke ash," a trap was inadvertently set. Who is the black smoke ash? It's of course the combination of 'black smoke emerging from a burning stone' and 'erupting volcanic ash', which is the real name of the Lord of Terror.
Unfortunately, the Lord of Terror is not here, and would never use the Gate of No Boundary to contact him. This name was a trap from the start.
If it were the door handle, he would reply "no," and then Anthony would talk to it about things they both know.
Why not use a code word? Because there's the risk of Soul Search. This world has too many methods of plundering others' memories, and no one can be sure if the opponent has obtained the door handle's memories.
