Lan Suyin was ahead of all of them, so she walked onto the platform first. There, she began using her Daos in subtle ways that didn't produce any recognizable outcome, but it was enough for the artifact to record the fact that she had indeed learned a Dao.
Each time one of her Daos was accepted, the artifact gave out a loud pinging sound that everyone heard no matter where they were.

Alex wondered if the people who prepared this test had made it with the thought in mind that the more Daos one learned, the harder it would be to learn another.
