Chapter 20 - Why Is the Male Lead Being So Obedient?

She looked at his frail and delicate appearance, and in the end still reached into her bag for a medicine pill.

She pinched out one, holding it up to his lips.

She spoke,

"Open your mouth."

Su Qing paused briefly, then opened his mouth, swallowing the pill without hesitation.

Su Ye watched his every movement, her brows knitting slightly, a bit puzzled.

Is this really that black-hearted bastard she wrote into existence?

Why is he so obedient? She tells him to open up and take medicine, and he just eats it without a single question??

Isn't he afraid she might poison him?

Thinking it over carefully, both times they'd met, he seemed just like this—obedient, sickly, never behaving as a lunatic.

Could it be that the main character she once wrote with a God's-eye view differs from the real one?

Could the protagonist actually be the kind who—despite hardship since childhood—has always yearned for the light??

But does this bastard even know what light is?

But soon enough, she shook her head, refusing to let herself dwell on it further.

No matter what, helping him this far is enough.

He's been missing for so long—his overpowered subordinates should be here to find him any moment now.

Thinking that, she tiptoed and decided to sneak away quietly.

But just as she made a move, a slender yet bony hand gripped her sleeve.

Su Qing's voice came, tinged with weakness.

"Where are you going?"

"I'm just going out to take a look."

Even after she finished speaking, Su Qing still didn't let go.

For a long while, she heard him slowly say,

"My benefactor has saved me three times, yet I do not know your name."

Su Ye lowered her head, gently pulling at her robe, extricating it from his grasp.

She answered slowly,

"That's not important."

Listening, Su Qing's throat bobbed; those crimson lips parted and closed,

"Su Qing wishes to repay my benefactor."

Su Ye paused—repay?

If this guy knew the Spirit Stone inside her could suppress his poison outbreaks, repaying would be out of the question—even if she saved him ten times, he'd still dig out her Dantian without hesitation…

So, it's best not to get too entangled with him.

Su Ye leaned close, her tone gentle,

"If you really want to repay me, then for now leave that handkerchief over your eyes. That's repayment enough."

Whenever she met his gaze, she always felt her every secret was laid bare—thankfully, she had covered his eyes.

Su Qing's red lips curved ever so slightly, then he nodded.

"Alright."

Hearing his response, she wasted no time, pulled free her robe, and turned to leave.

With a creak, she pulled open the door and stepped outside.

Su Qing heard the door slide open, and the smile at his lips gradually faded.

Still, he remained seated at the edge of the bed, the silk kerchief over his eyes untouched, sitting there calmly and quietly.

On the bed lay a red satin quilt embroidered with mandarin ducks frolicking in water.

The crimson drapes, stirred by the breeze, drifted gently in midair.

Su Qing, in a red robe stitched with golden thread, sat perfectly still at the center of the bed, as if time itself had frozen.

The room was deathly silent—no sound at all.

He truly upheld his promise, never once removing the kerchief from his eyes.

Such silence was broken after one stick of incense's time.

Three men in black pushed open the door and entered.

From the distant corridor drifted the scent of blood, seeping into the room.

Upon seeing the man seated on the bed, the aura of blood and slaughter shrouding the figures in black instantly vanished.

In the next moment, they all knelt together at the edge of the bed.

"Sect Leader."

Those two words fell cold and respectful.
