Grayson stood frozen, his eyes locked on the massive Hollow before him. The creature's familiar, yet more powerful spiritual pressure sent chills down his spine, memories of their previous encounters flooding back. This was the same Hollow that had haunted his nightmares, the one responsible for the deaths of his friends. The scar on its chest, the blades protruding out of its forearms all too familiar. The air in the Menos Forest hung heavy with an oppressive, otherworldly energy. The scent of decay and stagnant spirit particles filled his nostrils, making him want to gag.
"I found you at last..." The Hollow's deep, gravelly voice echoed through the forest, causing nearby trees to shudder. In the distance, strange, unearthly howls punctuated the eerie silence.
Grayson's hand instinctively moved to the hilt of his Zanpakutō, his palm sweaty against the worn grip. His heart raced, a mixture of fear and determination coursing through his veins. "How... how is this possible?" he muttered, his mind racing. "You shouldn't be here. I defeated you!"
The Hollow let out a low, rumbling laugh that shook the very ground beneath them. Grayson struggled to maintain his footing as tremors rippled through the forest floor. "Defeated? No, little Soul Reaper. You merely forced me to evolve."
As Grayson watched, the Hollow's form began to shift and change. Its mask cracked and reformed, its body twisting and reshaping itself. The sound of breaking bones and stretching sinew filled the air, accompanied by the Hollow's agonized yet triumphant roars. When the transformation was complete, the creature before him was no longer just a Hollow, but something far more dangerous.
"An Adjuchas," Grayson whispered, recognizing the evolved form from his studies. This was bad. Very bad. He could feel the immense spiritual pressure radiating from the creature, making the air around them feel thick and heavy.
The newly transformed Adjuchas flexed its claws, its eyes gleaming with malice. "Now, shall we finish what we started? I've been looking forward to the day I finally devour your soul, Soul Reaper."
Grayson took a deep breath, steadying himself. He was tired, low on spiritual energy, and trapped in an unfamiliar world. But he had no choice. This was a fight he couldn't run from. *I can't let it end here,* he thought. *Not after everything I've been through.*
"Distort, Jūryoku no Megami!" he called out, releasing his Shikai once more. The familiar weight of his released Zanpakutō gave him a small measure of comfort. As the blade transformed, Grayson felt a surge of power flowing through him, the air around him shimmering with increased gravity.
As Grayson and the Adjuchas squared off, the air in the Menos Forest grew even heavier with tension. This battle would determine not just Grayson's fate, but potentially the course of his entire journey.
Quickly, Grayson checked the Hollow's stats, wanting to see what kind of fight he was in for as he compared them to his own, using his unique ability to appraise both himself and his opponents.

"N-No way..." Grayson muttered, his eyes widening as he processed the information. "How did it grow so strong?" The stark difference in their levels and stats made his stomach churn. He knew he was no match for this monster, even with his Shikai abilities. *But I can't give up,* he thought, gritting his teeth. *I have to find a way.*
The Adjuchas made the first move, lunging forward with frightening speed. Grayson barely managed to dodge, feeling the rush of air as the creature's claws missed him by mere inches. The sound of trees splintering behind him told him just how close he'd come to being eviscerated.
"You've gotten faster," Grayson grunted, quickly regaining his footing. Sweat beaded on his brow as he tried to catch his breath. He swung his Zanpakutō, channelling his spiritual energy into the blade. *I have to slow it down,* he thought desperately. *It's my only chance.*
A wave of intense gravitational force erupted from the sword, slamming into the Adjuchas. The air visibly distorted as the gravity wave passed through it. But to Grayson's horror, the creature merely staggered back a few steps, seemingly more annoyed than hurt.
"Is that all you've got, Soul Reaper?" the Adjuchas taunted, its voice dripping with malice. "I expected more from the one who forced me to evolve. Don't tell me you've gotten weaker since our last encounter."
Grayson's mind raced, trying to formulate a strategy. *Maybe if I combine Kidō with my Shikai...* Before he could act on the thought, the Hollow was upon him again. This time, its claws found their mark, raking across Grayson's chest. He cried out in pain, feeling warm blood seeping through his shihakushō.
Gritting his teeth, Grayson tried to focus through the searing pain. He knew he was outmatched, but he couldn't give up. Not here, not now. The faces of his fallen comrades flashed through his mind, fueling his determination.
"I have to go all out," Grayson thought, his grip tightening on his Zanpakutō. "Or I might really die this time." Drawing upon every ounce of his spiritual energy, he channelled it into his blade. The red orb in the hilt began to glow with an intense, pulsating light.
"Let's try 30 times normal gravity!" Grayson shouted, his voice echoing through the forest. The air around the Hollow suddenly became incredibly heavy, as if the weight of an entire world was pressing down upon it. The ground beneath the Adjuchas cracked and cratered under the immense pressure.
For a moment, it seemed to work. The Hollow struggled against the increased gravity, its movements slowing. Its large muscles strained visibly, fighting to keep its massive body upright. A flicker of hope ignited in Grayson's chest. *Maybe I can win this after all,* he thought.
But then, with a roar that shook the very trees around them, the Adjuchas began to break free of the gravitational prison. Its spiritual pressure spiked dramatically, pushing back against Grayson's power.
"Not... enough!" the Hollow growled, its voice strained but filled with rage.
It charged again, letting out a burst of spiritual pressure that shattered Grayson's gravitational field. This time, it moved too fast for Grayson to counter. A powerful blow sent him flying, his back slamming against a gnarled tree with a sickening crack. His vision blurred, the taste of copper filling his mouth.
As he struggled to stand, his body screaming in protest, Grayson realized with growing dread that he was outmatched. This wasn't just a stronger version of the Hollow he'd faced before; it was an entirely different league of opponent. His mind flashed back to his academy days, remembering the lessons on Hollow evolution.
*Adjuchas-class Menos,* he recalled. *The second stage of Menos evolution, far more powerful than standard Hollows or even Gillians. They possess intelligence, strategic thinking, and overwhelming spiritual power.*
The Adjuchas loomed over him, its mask split in a grotesque grin. "And so it ends, Soul Reaper," it said, savouring the moment. "Your soul will be the sweetest I've ever tasted. Revenge is mine at last."
Grayson closed his eyes, bracing for the final blow. Regret washed over him. *I'm sorry, everyone. I wasn't strong enough.* But the killing strike never came.
Instead, there was a flash of movement, a clash of steel, and a howl of pain from the Adjuchas. Grayson's eyes snapped open to see a figure standing between him and the Hollow, wielding a Zanpakutō that glowed with spiritual energy. The newcomer's spiritual pressure was immense, easily rivalling that of the Adjuchas.
"Who dares?" the Adjuchas snarled, nursing a fresh wound on its arm. Black blood oozed from the deep gash, sizzling as it hit the ground.
"Ashido Kanō," the newcomer replied, his voice calm but filled with unmistakable strength. He stood tall, his tattered clothing fluttering in the spiritual wind generated by the clash. "And I suggest you leave, Hollow, unless you wish to be purified here and now."
The Adjuchas hesitated, clearly weighing its options. Its eyes darted between Ashido and Grayson, calculating its chances. With a final, hateful glare at Grayson, it retreated into the shadows of the Menos Forest, its roars of frustration echoing in the distance.
Ashido turned to Grayson, who was still struggling to remain conscious. "Can you stand, Soul Reaper?" he asked, his voice tinged with concern.
Grayson tried to respond, but the world was spinning around him. The adrenaline that had kept him going was fading, and the full extent of his injuries was becoming apparent. The last thing he saw before darkness claimed him was Ashido's concerned face leaning over him.
When Grayson next opened his eyes, he found himself in a dimly lit cave. The air was cooler here, and he could hear the distant drip of water echoing through the cavern. His wounds had been tended to, bandages wrapped tightly around his chest and arms. The immediate danger seemed to have passed, but a dull ache permeated his entire body.
As he lay there, recovering, his mind raced with questions. Who was Ashido Kanō? How long had he been in Hueco Mundo? And most importantly, how would Grayson ever hope to grow stronger if he couldn't even defeat one Adjuchas?
He glanced at his status window, noting with a mixture of relief and frustration that his health and stamina were slowly regenerating. The "Bonus: ???" still puzzled him. Was it some hidden potential yet to be unlocked? Or perhaps a curse that held him back?
As he pondered these questions, Grayson couldn't shake the feeling that his encounter with the evolved Hollow was just the beginning of a much larger, more dangerous journey through the realm of Hueco Mundo. He had survived, barely, but at what cost? And what new challenges awaited him in this nightmarish world?
The sound of footsteps echoed through the cave, growing closer. Grayson tensed, his hand instinctively reaching for his Zanpakutō. But as Ashido's familiar figure emerged from the shadows, he allowed himself to relax slightly. Perhaps now he would get some answers – and maybe, just maybe, find an ally in this forsaken realm.
