If I had to describe the vibe of the group as we walked out of Andy's luxury building to start our "relaxing city day," it would be:

We are pretending.

Aggressively.

Collectively.

Internationally.

The sun was warm.

The breeze was crisp.

The streets of downtown were lined with orange leaves and pretty storefronts.

It SHOULD have felt pleasant.

It SHOULD have felt peaceful.

Instead, it felt like all of us were actors who had forgotten half our lines.

Kate looped her arm with mine the moment we stepped outside. "City day!" she chirped with fake enthusiasm. "Fresh! Light! Fun! Zero drama!"

Vince snorted. "That's what people say right before drama."

Jeff nodded. "Statistically."

Lara shot them both a glare. "We are going to have a normal day. End of discussion."

Her tone sounded more like a threat to the universe.

Jasmine stepped closer to Anthony, hooking her arm through his. "It's really nice out. Perfect weather."

Anthony hummed in agreement.
