Without another word, Madam Beckett led the way out of her quarters and went straight to Rosaline's room.
"Oh, my dear Rosie…"
She hurried to the bedside, her face softening with concern as she sat down and reached for the girl's forehead.
"What's wrong, sweetheart?" she whispered, gently brushing her hair aside. "I've missed that bright smile of yours."
Rosaline slowly stirred awake.
Her eyes were puffy from crying, her head bowed as her lips formed a small, miserable pout.
"I'm fine, Anna…"
Madam Beckett glanced at the untouched tray of food sitting on the nearby nightstand before letting out a quiet sigh.
"Don't you like the food?" she asked, tucking a few strands of Rosaline's disheveled hair behind her ear. "You can always tell the servants what you want."
Rosaline shook her head.
"No… I like the food…"
Her voice was hoarse, and she quickly sniffed back another sob.
"But… I want to eat with Madre…"
Madam Beckett's expression softened.
"Oh, dear…"
