[Headquarters, 6:06 PM]
Beside Clyde's bed, Madam Beckett clasped her trembling hands, praying for his recovery and the emergency summit's success.
But then a knock interrupted her.
"Come in."
Alan entered, bowing before approaching with unusual haste.
"Has the summit ended?"
"Not yet, Madam. But there's something you must know."
He leaned closer, recounting everything he had overheard between Mervyn and Vincent.
Madam Beckett went pale. "I knew Mervyn was jealous. I knew he was hurting." Her voice faltered. "But to plot something so monstrous…"
"He considers you and Mr. Ryley obstacles to his rule through Young Master Morgan," Alan replied.
A bitter scoff escaped the old woman when she heard it. "After everything I've done to secure his son's future…" She shook her head. "And now he wants me out of the picture?"
Her gaze returned to Clyde. "And Vincent? Do you believe he meant what he said?"
