Chapter 39 - Chapter 39

Lore and Valorum looked at each other briefly, waiting for the High King to address them. The High King stared with a stoic face; waving his hand to gather the two men's attention.

"Knight General Valorum, and his Apprentice Knight, Lore. Thank you both for joining me so late at night, but during our excursion you will have a special mission." As the High King spoke his voice carried authority, but also carried an air of charisma and tenderness. "We know the Daemonic army is no longer here, but we must stop this storm before it becomes too much of a problem to handle."

The High King nodded his head in agreement.

"It seems you are also aware of the other threat now looming over us." As the High King spoke he studied both men under his gaze.

"This Storm is drawing the attention of the Daemon's, and I've also heard that the Beast Kingdom has started to move as well. Our forces will be actively facing three threats with fewer numbers." The High King said.

"Can't we just have a portion of our troops with higher combat potebtial hold off the enemies? ?" Lore asked.

"You think just as all of us do, boy. However, even though I've contacted the mages guild four hundred of our forces will need to use magic to seal the storm, and like I said before; it leaves us drastically outnumbered. Especially against enemies who are naturally stronger than humans." Spoke the High King

"Why don't we get the Mages Guild to help us? I mean if the mage guild can create such powerful magic why would they not want to help us?" Lore questioned more

"Because the mages guild has already failed to contain the storm. And since most with magical abilities become Knight candidates, their numbers are even lower than ours. I've summoned the five archmagi, but they are scattered across the continent and may not make it in time."

"So basically there's no choice," Lore concluded.

"That's correct, my young apprentice. My orders were clear, I must protect the people of Internia as High King. We can try to beat the storm, but from our investigations; We're running out of time."

The High King, Lore, and Valorum were up until the morning hours devising plans with the other generals. Even after dawn came about, the general meetings continued.

Lore was tired, but he knew that this matter was too important to let go. He understood the situation. With the Storm approaching so fast they could be dealing with a massive disaster in the next few days.

Lore's mind went through all the possibilities, and then he finally made his decision. He would seek out the Mage Guild and help them defeat the storm.

He needed to find a way to break the unnatural flow. If anyone knows anything it should be the Mages Guild.

A day later, Lore stood outside the gates leading down towards the city center where the Mage Guild resided. There weren't many guards around due to the current crisis.

Lore pushed open the large doors of the guild, and compared to other guilds it was a ghost town. Lore approached the front desk and knocked on the wood lightly. "Hello, I wish to speak with the guild master if at all possible."

There was silence coming from behind the counter, and then suddenly three women emerged from within the shadows. One woman wore black robes over her head while two kept their hooded heads low. The first person spoke.

The foremost mage, bowed lightly, and addressed Lore. "Afternoon Sir, my name is Alisa. The GuildMastee is in his office. I can lead you there."

Alisa is one of the youngest members of the mage guild. She hasn't reached thirty years yet, however she possesses great talent and skill beyond her age. Her ability to cast spells without hesitation makes those older feel inadequate.

She leads an elite group known as the Black Flame. Their job isn't just to fight monsters, but rather hunt down rogue mages whose power exceeds normal levels. This includes sorcerers and wizards alike who have gone renegade or turned criminal because of their powers. Those caught under suspicion will either face trial before a judge or execution depending on the severity of the crime committed.

They are feared throughout Internia, and even some cities abroad fear their wrath if found guilty of breaking laws concerning sorcery.

Alisa had a lovely smile, and her eyes were bright with joy. Lore followed behind her as she led the way upstairs. As soon as they arrived at the top floor, Alisa walked directly to a door marked 'Guild Master' and opened it. Inside sat Kalloron, the leader of the Black Flames, and all other Mage Orders.

Kalloron, as most called him, rose from his seat as soon as he saw Alisa enter the room. A manly figure dressed in dark red robed armor adorned with golden designs ran fingers along his beard and smiled warmly.

His long white hair flowed freely past his shoulders, and deep blue irises shined brightly beneath thick eyebrows. He resembled a lion; strong, powerful, dangerous, wise and intelligent. Even after seeing him countless times Lore still got chills whenever he laid eyes upon such greatness. Countless of Lore's spells had been created by this mage. The man above the five Archmagi. Due to his fame, and magic skills he was monikered The All Knowing.

He stood tall and proud, and held his head high despite being seated in a chair made out of stone. He didn't look tired or worn down. In fact, he seemed refreshed.

The GuildMaster asked Alisa, "Is our guest ready to chat?"

Lore answered before Alisa could. "If you don't mind Sir, I'm here to see what will be able to stop the Magic Storm. You obviously know what's going on. Why aren't you trying to help?"

"My dear boy, of course I know of the storm. It formed after Knight King Bartholomew, and the Daemon Korush, engaged in a horrendous duel. The High King had Mr some the five Archmagi. My direct apprentice works under the king, I have no need to involve myself further."

"Absurd!" Cried Lore

Alisa spoke next. "Well then, why haven't you done anything about the storm? If it is as big a threat as everyone says-"

"It is a threat. One we must take seriously, but im just a lowly Apprentice Knight. Thats why i sought him out." Lore interjected, cutting her off.
