The last day!!

***********************************

The heavy silence that followed Guan Dong Liu's revelation was suddenly torn apart by a sharp voice, filled with emotion.

"Why didn't you kill that scoundrel?!"

All heads turned in astonishment as Guan Qing Han, her eyes slightly reddened and her chest heaving with indignation, glared daggers at Jun Mo Xie. Her words, sharp and accusatory, cut through the air like a sword.

Jun Mo Xie blinked in surprise, clearly not expecting such a blunt outburst.

Guan Dong Liu, still reeling from the prior conversation, paled in shock. "W-What?... What did you say?!"

He stared at his daughter in horror as if she had spoken something so utterly forbidden that even the walls might collapse in protest. "You... you want to kill Li Jue Tian's son?! Are you mad, girl?! Do you know what you're saying?!"

His voice rose to a roar, filled with both anger and fear. His face turned crimson, and sweat broke out on his forehead. "You'd have both our families annihilated!"

Jun Wu Yi raised a brow, coughing once as he sat straighter in his wheelchair. "Qing Han, what are you talking about? What is this about killing someone?"

With a puff of her cheeks and a voice still thick with frustration, Guan Qing Han turned toward her uncle, refusing to back down. "I told Mo Xie about that green-cloaked scoundrel the moment I returned from my pilgrimage to Mo You's cenotaph. I told him everything that arrogant bastard followed me, harassed me, and dared to speak as though he owned me! I told Mo Xie to take care of it. I told him to kill that bastard!"

Her delicate fists were clenched at her sides, trembling with suppressed rage and humiliation.

Guan Dong Liu's mouth opened, then closed. He looked at his daughter like he was staring at a creature from another world. "You… you asked your brother-in-law to kill the only son of the second strongest expert alive…?"

He took a step back, shaking his head slowly as if trying to wake from a nightmare. "Have you lost your mind, Qing Han? Do you understand what you're saying? If even a hair on Li Teng Yun's head had been harmed, we would all be wiped from existence!"

But Guan Qing Han didn't even flinch.

"Then let them try!" She snapped. "I wasn't asking for revenge. I was asking for justice! That man dared to speak such vile words to me, and you expect me to just smile and let it go? Are we really so lowly that we can be trampled on just because of power?!"

Jun Wu Yi's frown deepened, his gaze now turning to his nephew.

"Mo Xie," He said quietly, but with a steely undertone, "Why didn't you inform me of any of this? This is not something to be taken lightly."

Jun Mo Xie leaned back lazily in his chair, his arms folded across his chest. A faint, almost mischievous smile curved on his lips. "Third Uncle, I understand your concern, but honestly... was I supposed to kill a man just because he admired a beautiful woman?"

He turned his gaze to Guan Qing Han, the smile in his eyes deepening.

"Besides," He added with a shrug, "If that were grounds for murder, shouldn't I have been dead long ago? I've been admiring Qing Han's beauty for far longer than that green-robed clown ever did."

There was a loud snort, and a flash of crimson bloomed across Guan Qing Han's cheeks. She turned her head sharply, trying to suppress the faint upward curl of her lips.

"Hmph!"

Everyone saw it.

Guan Dong Liu saw it.

Jun Wu Yi saw it.

The atmosphere in the room shifted dramatically.

Guan Dong Liu's mouth fell open, and he blinked rapidly as he looked between his daughter and the heir of the Jun Family. A creeping suspicion began to form at the back of his mind.

Was there something going on between these two...? Was his daughter...?

He didn't dare finish the thought.

Jun Wu Yi, for his part, raised a hand and began to rub his temples as though he was trying to massage away a headache that had suddenly exploded behind his eyes.

"You little brat…" He groaned. "Have you completely lost your sense of propriety? Do you not remember that Qing Han is still your sister-in-law?!"

Jun Mo Xie's grin widened shamelessly.

"Of course I remember," He said smoothly. "But didn't Uncle already have plans to change that? You were the one who spoke of dissolving the engagement between Qing Han and my late brother. You were the one who considered adopting her formally as your adoptive daughter."

Jun Wu Yi opened his mouth, but had no retort ready.

Jun Mo Xie stood up and walked slowly over to Qing Han, who instinctively stepped back, cheeks still burning.

"Uncle," Jun Mo Xie continued, placing a hand over his chest in mock solemnity, "Shouldn't you have realized something by now? If I were the type to wait until things were official and settled, I wouldn't be Jun Mo Xie."

There was a beat of silence, then he flashed that same roguish grin.

"Besides, even if something did happen," He added nonchalantly, "wouldn't I handle it myself? You of all people know what kind of man your nephew is. If I really want something, no force in this world will keep me from it."

Jun Wu Yi stared at him, utterly speechless.

Guan Dong Liu sputtered, "What.... what is going on here? Qing Han! You... you're supposed to be mourning Jun Mo You!"

"I did mourn him!" she said defensively. "And I loved him dearly… but he is gone. He is never coming back. I know, Mo You would never want me to live my entire life buried in grief."

Her voice trembled slightly, her fists clenched at her sides. "And what about my happiness? Does anyone care what I want? Or am I just a pawn to be moved, traded, or sacrificed for family pride?"

Jun Mo Xie looked at her and his smile softened.

"Qing Han," He said gently, "you're not a pawn. Not to me."

Her eyes met his, and something in the air changed again, —something deeper, quieter.

It wasn't flirtation now. It was real.

A throat was cleared loudly. Jun Wu Yi had apparently decided he'd had enough romantic tension for one evening.

"That's all well and good," He muttered, "but perhaps we can go back to the matter at hand before your grandfather returns and decides to kill us all."

Guan Dong Liu, still reeling, took a deep breath to recompose himself. "So... you knew about this Li Teng Yun, Mo Xie?"

Jun Mo Xie nodded casually. "Of course. I have known about him since I already had plans to kill that bastard for making Qing Han sad like this..."
