Rotted Ravenclaw: Chapter 4
You know, I never once hoped that I would appear on T.V, I had no wish to do so, yet here I am entertaining some god probably getting off on my struggle. The goblin, Burdock, has me sit on the chair opposite of him and then asks for Gornuk to leave.
As soon as the goblin is out of the room, Burdock turns to me "Do you know why you are here Mr. Potter?" "So that you can confirm my Identity?" "Yes, now to make sure you are who you say you are, we'll be using a ritual that will determine that you are indeed Harry Potter." The goblin says.
As soon as he sees me nod, he summons up a piece of parchment which has some magic coming off of it, oh yeah forgot to tell you that I could sense magic, happened while I was meditating to learn occlumency, even though I have to be close to the source to even feel it for now, if I can increase my mastery of it, it will be an invaluable skill. "You will just have to write your name on this parchment with this special quill, it will write with your blood as blood is a strong conductor of magic."
I really didn't want to give them my blood as who knows how many dark rituals can be performed from my blood but this is still a lot better, I thought it would be like fanfictions where you have to cut your arm and drop 3 or 5 drops of blood in a bowl, this is similar yet more safe I believe. I used the quill, albeit very clumsily and signed the parchment, I could feel my magic being drawn out of me and through the quill to the parchment.
The moment I was done writing my name, the blood raced to the top and started writing the names of my ancestors, starting with my parents and going only as far as my grandparents, I was hoping for more but it's enough, now that my identity was confirmed, Burdock flips over the parchment and hands it to me. Written there were names of all the vaults I could claim:
Potter Family Vault (2,332,412 galleons, artifacts)
Potter Trust Vault (200,000 galleons)
Peverell Vault (869,420 galleons, artifacts)
'Don't drool Harry, don't drool you fool!' I mentally wipe my imaginary drool off my face while internally dancing and focus my attention back to the goblin who was looking at me in amusement, I got myself back together "so, now what" I say, embarrassed for losing composure, I mean you can't blame me! This was the first time I've seen so much money!
"Now, please wear this ring Mr. Potter." Burdock says, the amusement set aside.
"What is it for?" I ask, a symbol to showcase my heirship, maybe? That would be counterproductive towards my goal and my 'No showing power until you can use that said power to pow-wow enemies' policy.
"It is a show of the power you now hold and it has additional enchantments as well." "Additional enchantments?", "It can turn invisible, protect your mind from the less experienced legilimens and can be used to directly pay the price to any items you buy like a muggle credit or debit card."
"Legilimens? What is that?" I speak, feigning ignorance, it just wouldn't do for me to already know about a rare art and get him suspicious of me. "Legilimens are the people who have gained the ability to read minds, which is known as legilimency."
"People can read minds!? And you said it will only protect me from the inexperienced legilimens but what about people who know it very well? Isn't there a way for me to defend myself from them?" I exclaim, trying my luck to hopefully be able to acquire an occlumency book, it would help me loads.
"Yes there is, it's the art opposite of legilimency, called occlumency, but you'll hardly find anyone that knows it nowadays. We can buy it for you, at a raised price of course." "Yes, yes buy i-wait, what would the price be?"
"About 120,000 for the original, it is a very rare tome after all. And an additional 20,000 for going through the trouble to find it for you." "At what date does the trust vault fill back up? And what is the exchange rate?" I question, not wanting to run out of money as I won't be able to access my family vault until I'm 17.
"1st of every month, so it will fill back up in 6 days. As for the exchange rate, it is currently 7 pounds to a Galleon." 7 pounds to a galleon… that's a lot, I currently had 376 pounds as a result of stealing from the Dursleys and some unfortunate passerby's using levitation. So that roughly converts into 53 Galleons, "What is the price for a set of school robes?" I ask, hoping to get an estimate for the value of a galleon.
"For a full set of robes with the standard material is approximately 20 Galleons.". "Okay then, please purchase the tome. And one more question, are there ways to fix malnourishment in the wizarding world?"
The goblin suddenly becomes deadly serious, startling me with the sudden personality change. "You're abused?" A metaphorical sly smile crept onto my face, but outwardly changed my demeanor to fit that of a child who said something he shouldn't have(I hate people who say should of instead of should have). I purse my lips together, signifying not wanting to speak and that is all the answer he gets or needs.
"Well, we'll get you looked at by a healer." "Really?" I ask, not having to feign hopefulness as I really needed to do something about my malnourished body. "Yes, but you have still not worn the ring." I stare at the ring for no longer than a second and put it on my finger, it takes a second for it's magic to kick in, but as soon as it does I feel my mind get surrounded by shields with much higher durability than I am capable of making for the time being.
This gives me an idea as to what the shields should feel like and will probably make it much easier to build my own walls as I have some reference. That done and over with, the final step before I step out of Gringotts is getting looked over by a doct-uhh, healer.
