Chapter 5 - Chapter 04: Mysterious Girl

Night descends upon the mainland, far away from the island that inhabited the hidden city. Night shops are now opening for business while people working in the daytime hurriedly go to their homes, lock their doors, and shut their windows in fear.

The night is the time that the vampires emerge from their hiding place, living their lives like they are the Kings and Queens of the land.

The people endured this life for almost three hundred years. Ever since the Vampire God ruled the world, humans have done nothing but hide in their homes to not be taken away from their loved ones in case they are running into a vampire. The vampires that roam at night are looking to some unsuspecting humans either for food or if you're an unlucky female, a 'bride' for them or worse, to the Vampire God.

The Capital is the main city of the Vampires. Unlike the hidden city of Libertas who are relying on advanced technology, The Capital has relied on carriages and coal in human's everyday lives. Some shops sell and auction slaves for the vampires which are run by the humans who swore loyalty to the Vampire God. The people live their lives in extreme poverty and slums, struggling for their lives; while the vampires live in extravagant mansions and have a luxurious life, relying on their human slaves for everyday chores during the daytime.

Vampires won't allow any humans to live their lives proudly. All of them must obey the rules dictated by their God. They have successfully purged every possible rebellion for three hundred years and no humans could ever succeed in defying the Vampire God.

Fifty years ago, a bloody rebellion took place. Humanity almost won the war against the vampires but a traitor among them later sold them out to the vampires to save his hide, and the rebels were completely wiped out; only for the vampires to realize too late that the leader of the rebel group that they killed has the mark of the lilies on his left shoulder. When the Vampire God learned of the rebel leader's demise; in his rage, killed the traitor who sold his group out alongside the vampires who had killed the rebel leader.

After that incident, no one had the strength to raise their voice against their God, for they knew that their punishment was death.

But they didn't know that this night would change the course; the wheel of fate would start to turn for both parties and would change the flow of time.

A lone 15-year-old girl with long white hair is seen running away from her pursuers, her dirtied white dress flowing in the wind. She turned left in the alleyway to get away from them. The pursuers, who are all Vampires are running straight, still thinking that the girl is going straight.

The girl looked at the road that the vampires took one last time before continuing to run away, her hand clutching her left shoulder while ignoring the pain of her bare foot from running.

'They must not get me.' The girl thought to herself. 'I can faintly sense Big Brother's soul from far away. The burning of my mark can't lie. The mark of the lilies is pointing me to Big Brother's location. I must find a way to get to him no matter what it takes. I must go to where he is.'

But as she ran, she accidentally tripped on the rock but instead of falling on the pavement, someone caught her in the nick of time. She looked up and saw her mysterious saver, who was wearing a dark robe with a hood, which hid his face.

He saw the vampires approaching them. He called another person who was also wearing a dark hood.

He handed over the girl to that person. "Make sure to go to our rendezvous point. Use the motorcycle that was hidden in the forest to get away in case they caught you. I will catch up and meet you there."

"Yes, captain!" The other person salutes him before grabbing the girl and running away.

"Follow them!" The vampire ordered his two companions, and they tried to pursue the escaping people when suddenly, their heads were detached from their bodies before they were screaming in pain as they disintegrated, leaving only their clothes. On the now disintegrating bodies is the robed man now wielding a weapon that resembles giant scissors that were separate from the screw in his both hands, laying down his weapon after killing them.

The remaining vampire was quivering in fear of what happened. For almost three hundred years, no one has been able to kill a vampire that easily. Most of the rebels they faced before struggled with how to kill them, aside from their natural weakness and they all failed. By that, he stepped back and tried to run away to report this to their King, only for the robed man to charge at him and swing his weapon towards his neck, successfully decapitating him before he too was reduced to ash and his clothes remained on the pavement.

The man sheathed his weapon by putting it on his back. He only sighed and put his two fingers on his left ear, calling his companion. "This is Captain Davis speaking. How's our target?" He hears a beep on his comms, which is located at his left ear before he hears a voice from the other side.

"Safe and sound, captain!" The voice cheerly replied. "How about you?"

"Alive and unharmed." He replied. "No doubt, the Solaria weapons did work against them."

"That will prove that we have a higher chance of defeating that vampire!" the caller said. "Anyways, you should get out of there before more vampires are hunting us."

"Sheesh," the man sighed. "Okay, worry wart." He ended the call and ran in the direction of where his companion had taken.

"Your Majesty, the slaves that have escaped the prison are successfully recaptured."

The Vampire God did not look at the guard who was kneeling before him. Instead, he asked: "How many of those rebel slaves have escaped the prison have you caught as of now?"

"So far, there are twenty-one slaves who have escaped the prison. We recaptured twenty of them and we gave them severe punishment as of this moment."

"And the other one?"

"She was still out. We have vampires to pursue after her."

Just then, another guard entered the hall and kneeled before the king. "Your Majesty!"

"Have you found the escaped slave?" He asked the newly arrived guard.

Said the guard was now sweating and gulping in fear. He doesn't like it when their King is angry. "The slave was successfully escaped, Your Majesty." He reported in a quivering voice. "Some rebels helped her, and they killed the vampires we sent out easily. We only found them in ashes and only their uniforms remain when we arrived."

"Those rebels did WHAT?!" The King shouted in anger which shook the entire hall and caused the glasses in the ceiling to shatter. "Useless imbeciles!" He grabbed the guard by the throat and hovered him in the air, choking him.

"You are all incompetent!" He gripped tight as the choking guard begged for his life until the sound of the broken bone was heard. The Vampire King let go of his hand moments later and the guard fell on the floor, dead. He waved his hand to summon his knights.

"Kill the other guard." He ordered while he turned to leave the hall, only to hear the scream of the guard on the other side of the room before it fell into silence.

"All of you, useless maggots!" he snarled as he walked towards his study. "What's the point of small-brained idiots like you exists in this world!"

"If only I turned him into a vampire four hundred years ago, I-!"

The girl and the dark-robed person waited in the heart of a deep forest for two hours when the robed man arrived.

"Took you long enough!" The former said to the latter.

"Those vampires are persistent." He replied. "I was able to get away safely."

"Um," the girl began to speak. "Thank you for saving me. I hope you are all right."

"I'm fine." The man said before taking out his hood, revealing to be a man in his twenties, with long dark blue hair tied into a low ponytail. "We are looking for you."

"For me?" she asked, pointing to herself.

"Yeah. You're our mission!" His companion said as it took out the hood, revealing a short brown-haired girl with big round glasses covering her equally brown eyes.

"We'll explain later." The man said as he took out a device in his pocket and pressed the button. A portion of the forest suddenly formed a small barrier that began to disintegrate, revealing two motorcycles in plain view.

The girl was somehow amazed at the motorcycles that she didn't notice that the two hopped on their respective motorcycles.

"Hop in." The man said as the girl obliged, hopping on the man's motorcycle as they started their engines before they took off.

As they were riding out of the forest, the girl asked them. "I've never seen this type of transportation before."

"Of course, you've never seen this before." The other girl replied while her eyes were on the road. "What we came from is an entirely different world."

"We're from Libertas." The man continued, "The hidden city you people of the mainland spoke of. And we are here to keep you safe."

"Libertas," the girl spoke in awe. She knew that the story of the hidden city, where humans can live freely away from the vampires was real. "So, it is real."

"And so, we are!" The other girl said. "I'm Rina Cao and this guy is Captain Augustus Davis." Rina introduced herself. Augustus only nods as an introduction.

"And you are?" Augustus asked the girl.

"Anissa."

"Nice to meet you, too. All right, we will be taking you first to our hideout and then we will be transporting you to Libertas afterward. But while we are traveling through this dark forest, please tell us what you have known in this mainland."
