Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: Collected Another Wave of Blood Qi Power

It had to be said, this method of slicing buildings into sections and then hauling them away was crude, but very practical.

Watching the building's main structure being hauled away in sections, each weighing over ten tons, it looked like it would only take a minute or two to clear a path for the convoy.

Of course, a minute or two would be incredibly fast under normal circumstances. But the problem was, not only were they inside Tianshan City, they were now very close to the city center.

The Zombies in this area were incredibly dense. What's more, they had charged all the way here and still had a huge horde of Zombies on their tail.

According to typical Zombie behavior, they would stop giving chase if you got a few hundred meters ahead of them.

But it was impossible to shake them all off. The number of Zombies trailing the convoy was now at least over 300.

And the First Squad, holding the rear, would undoubtedly bear the brunt of the assault from this swarm of Zombies.

"Hand Cannons, prepare for area bombardment," Roger immediately ordered.

BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM!

A series of deafening roars erupted, forming a defensive line of interwoven explosions and flames. But because there were too many Zombies and the First Squad was too shorthanded, more than half of the horde still broke through.

However, a deadly rain of bullets from the Tearing Rifles greeted the Zombies that broke through.

But again, the First Squad was just too small. Even with Lin Xinghai, they only had 12 members. In the end, some Zombies still reached the Armored Vehicle.

ROAR! ROAR! ROAR!

The Zombies lunged and bit frantically. Their Sharp Claws were terrifying; a single swipe sent sparks flying from the Armored Vehicle's hull.

If the Armored Vehicle hadn't been made of high-strength Alloy, but just ordinary steel, the Zombies might very well have broken through its Defense and stormed inside.

But there were no "ifs." Faced with the thick, sturdy Armored Vehicle, the Zombies' attacks were futile.

At least, that was the case as long as no High Level Zombies showed up.

However, Lin Xinghai's brow furrowed as he watched a Zombie clinging to the firing port, desperately trying to squeeze inside.

SQUELCH!

With a single slash of his blade, Roger lopped off the Zombie's head. "Don't just stand there. Kill more Zombies. We need to hold the horde back here. The Armored Vehicle might be able to withstand a swarm, but that doesn't mean the two multi-purpose off-roaders at the front of the convoy can."

Hearing this, Lin Xinghai quickly snapped into action. He raised his foot to kick the headless corpse away.

But halfway through the kick, his leg froze in place.

He seemed to have thought of something, his eyes growing brighter and brighter. 'This is... a great opportunity!'

The intended kick turned into a push, and he placed his hand right on the wound.

"DING! Blood Qi Power detected. Absorb?"

As he gleefully selected "yes," he quickly shoved the corpse away and waited for the next Zombie to serve itself up.

That's right. He was going to use this opportunity to absorb a nice, big wave of Blood Qi Power.

He barely had to wait. As soon as he shoved the corpse away, the next Zombie immediately appeared at the opening.

This time, Lin Xinghai didn't even wait for the Zombie's head to get inside. He thrust out with the Vibrating Dagger he was holding.

A Zombie's bones are extremely hard, so to ensure a one-hit kill, he activated the dagger's vibration mode.

VMM!

Vibrating at a high frequency, the dagger met almost no resistance as it plunged into the Zombie's skull.

The Zombie died instantly!

As Lin Xinghai pulled out the dagger, he lightly touched the wound with his finger.

"DING! Blood Qi Power detected. Absorb?"

The pleasant system notification chimed, and he had gained another point of Blood Qi Power.

Now, Lin Xinghai needed no further prompting. His motivation skyrocketed to 200%.

He even monopolized two firing ports. Whenever a Zombie tried to climb in, he would move in for the kill and conveniently collect the Blood Qi Power.

His actions left Roger, watching from the side, a bit confused. 'Why go through so much trouble for something a single bullet could solve?'

However, since Lin Xinghai's movements were swift and his kill rate was high, Roger didn't say anything. He also figured it was good practice for Lin Xinghai to get more familiar with the Vibrating Dagger.

Harvesting Blood Qi Power was a joyous affair, but the good times didn't last.

The two Mecha, Heaven-Sundering and Celestial Frost, were just too efficient. In only a minute, they had cleared a passable road.

The convoy started up, speeding away from the area!

This was definitely good news for everyone else, but for Lin Xinghai, it was a disaster.

He couldn't just tell them to stop, however. All he could do was silently open his system panel. One look at it, and his mood instantly improved.

His Blood Qi Power had reached 76 points.

Factoring in the two Genetic Potions he hadn't used yet, he essentially had 86 points of Blood Qi Power.

That meant he only needed 14 more points of Blood Qi Power to break through and awaken his Superpower.

A piercing alarm snapped Lin Xinghai out of his thoughts.

He glanced at the screen and saw that two High Level Zombies had appeared at the same time.

Lin Xinghai had discovered long ago that the closer they got to the city center, the more frequently these High Level Zombies appeared.

But he never expected two to show up at once. 'This... is getting more and more dangerous.'

To deal with this crisis, Roger and Xu Hao split into two fireteams, calling over two other members with good Gun Technique to support them.

In the end, they overcame the crisis without any major issues.

However, the First Squad was already so small. With four members occupied by the High Level Zombies, their manpower for handling the other Zombies was stretched even thinner.

It was only then that the other squad members realized something. Lin Xinghai, whom they had never truly considered part of their fighting force, now had Gun Technique that was, almost without them noticing, nearly on par with their own.

Especially when shooting targets within 10 meters, he almost never missed, which greatly reduced the pressure on their defensive line.

"Didn't he just start learning his Gun Technique? My god! How is that possible?"

"I just noticed that, too. His Gun Technique is improving at an insane speed. It's like he gets better with every single shot."

"Can a good Genetic Assessment boost your learning efficiency? Why haven't I ever heard of that?"

"You call that 'boosting learning efficiency?' This is just straight-up hacking!"

For a moment, the vehicle was abuzz with discussion.

Listening to their conversation made Lin Xinghai a little uneasy. He began to reflect inwardly. 'Did I overdo it?'

However, he also noticed that their curiosity was all talk. No one seemed inclined to dig any deeper.

In fact, their actions toward him became even more enthusiastic.

They no longer saw Lin Xinghai as a rookie, but as a true teammate they could depend on.

"At the rate your Gun Technique is improving, we'll probably be able to entrust you with sniping High Level Zombies on the next mission," Roger couldn't help but remark.

By now, he had come to terms with it.

When the gap in talent becomes that wide, there's no room left for jealousy.

He just wanted to sigh and wonder, 'Is this guy even human?'
