Vera chimed in with Zola, "Did you hear that, Mr. Morgan? Even your own son is giving you a hard time. You'd better hurry back to bed."
But Victor wasn't having it. He lay down beside her with a shameless grin, his gaze pointedly raking over Vera's body.
Vera swatted at him and threatened, "You'd better behave. If you dare say another word or try anything funny, watch out. My fists don't have eyes."
Victor didn't know whether to laugh or cry. He had only meant to tease Vera a little; he never expected such a strong reaction from her.
"Looks to me like you're the one with the guilty conscience. Why else would your mind jump to such dirty places when I haven't even said a thing?"
His words made Vera so embarrassed she wanted to disappear. She still wanted to give him a good smack, but with both children watching, she had to restrain herself.
