"I do not like this." Soi Fon said with a scowl as they followed the Bount woman. "We are giving her far too much free reign."
"You're talking like any of us three can't just bend her into a pretzel if she were to try something." Yoruichi said with a roll of her eyes, still in her cat form and resting on Cain's shoulder. "Calm down a little."
"I still believe that it is foolish to trust someone who went after living humans. It would have been better to contact Soul Society and..."
"And what? Ask them how exactly we should genocide the Bounts?" Cain asked with a snort. "We have a chance to nip this whole bullshit in the bud before it grows into something bigger. Which would be a disaster since there is also the whole Blanks situation. If she's telling the truth, Yoshino is our best bet to ends this mess. Not like she has any chances to escape with all three of us here." He then looked back at Soi Fon with a glare. "I understand that questioning Yoruichi is a whole new character arc for you, but go back to being your usual submissive disaster lesbian self."
Wow, Yoruichi wasn't sure when was the last time Soi Fon was this red. As a matter of fact, she wasn't sure if she had ever seen her former subordinate this red; not to mention mortified to the point no sound escaped her mouth instead of her usual anger shenanigans. Keeping Cain around really had done wonders for her entertainment.
"You people know that I can hear you, right?" Yoshino asked as she turned her head around to look at them, a faint blush on her face. "And he's right. About me having no chance to escape with all three of you watching me, not about the... you know."
"By the way, will you finally tell us what the deal with you and this Kariya weirdo?" Cain asked with a raised eyebrow. "You seemed far more focused on him when we were talking about them."
"...he's my ex-husband."
"Please tell me that this isn't a marriage quarrel." Yoruichi said with a groan. "I know people can die for stupid reasons, but if people died because of something like that; I really might cry for them."
"We have been separated for almost a century!" Yoshino hissed. "And this has nothing to do with our former relationship! It's because Kariya is a maniac!"
"Yes of course." Cain raised his hands in surrender. "But for the peace of our minds, can you elaborate a little bit?"
Yoshino looked like she was contemplating whether she should answer or just commit suicide by attacking Cain. In the end, it seemed like her more logical side won.
"Bounts were not all born around the same time. Kariya claims that our race came into being after an incident in Soul Society released abnormal spirit particles into the cycle of reincarnation and caused the mutation that created Bounts, with many being born right around the time of the incident and the number of appearances becoming fewer over time." She started explaining. "Kariya was among the earlier generations, the ones that got massacred by the Shinigami."
"And of course it's you people that start this with you lovely responses." Cain snorted and Yoruichi could not disagree.
Soul Society's government was rather keen on simply ordering the deaths of everyone and everything that they didn't like. Bounts were not even the first race that they had tried to kill off, not to mention the destruction of many old families. Though what was most telling was that not even Soi Fon was trying to defend the act.
One could only hope that the next Central 46 would be wiser than the last one, but Yoruichi had little hope for that.
"That's why he's gathering other Bounts and was searching for Quincies. He has some sort of method to go to Soul Society and intends to take revenge."
"More like do a suicide rush." Cain laughed. "I don't know how strong you people actually would be in a place as rich in spirit particles as Soul Society but I can assure you that it won't be enough to even reach Yamamoto Shigekuni. Your ex is planning to simply go out in a blaze of glory."
"...I can't see him do something with no plan" Yoshino said but there was something uncertain in her tone. As if she was trying to convince herself more so than them.
"We are here." She said as they reached the metal gates of the garden around the mansion Kariya and the rest of the Bounts were staying.
"This is my final reminder. A Bount fights using their Doll, a fully sentient spiritual entity that uses our own spiritual power to remain in the world and fight. If you kill the Doll, then the Bount will die too." She said, her tone lifeless as she directly explained how exactly they could kill the people of her race and, by extension, herself too. "One final thing, a Doll's loyalty is not absolute. If their bond is not strong enough and the Bount shows weakness, the Doll will turn on them and kill them."
"Sounds like we can just kill the Bount and be done with it." Cain said with a roll of his eyes as he raised his foot and kicked the gate down.
And then he was sent flying by a blast of water coming from down his feet.
"Yoruichi-sama!" Soi Fon screamed, far more concerned about the feline form of her former superior rather than Cain, which almost proved fatal as a grey snake shot out of a bush and tried to bite her throat; only to be blocked by one hand and had it's head ripped off by another.
"They are here!" Yoshino yelled as she stroke her bracelet with her claw and summoned her Doll, a huge humanoid made of fire with no legs or face that hovered in air.
"Welcome back, miss Yoshino." A man with wavy brown hair and a thick goatee wearing a purple west walked out, he also had a yellow snake wrapped around his shoulders. "You saved us much trouble coming to get you ourselves."
