__________
Hestia wasn't sure what she was expecting when Caelan strolled back to their little ramshack home as the sun began rising in the sky and the first rays of light of the day began to shine over Orario.
This was not it however.
Currently, she sat straddling her beloved first child's bare back, the glow of his falna lighting up the basement room of the decrepit church. With how bright it was, she would have probably decided to take it upstairs before the light roused Lili who was still asleep.
But, Hestia's entire focus was on the events playing out in her minds eye as she read through the new additions to the story on his back.
From his casual traversing down through the dungeon clad in an aura of her divine flame, tearing monsters apart like paper, capturing one, force feeding it magic stones to evolve it, killing it easily for the most part, running into that flatty flat flatty Loki's favourite child, agreeing to teach her for reasons she could not fathom, revealing his skill to her, and then having her accompany him down to the seventeenth floor where he fought, nay, decimated the Goliath.
…The amount of high quality excelia he'd gained through the night thanks to his Typhon skill was absurd.
There was so much of it, it couldn't even be fully converted into his stats and was just laying there, resistant to her prodding and attempts to manipulate it.
There was only so much excelia the falna could convert into power at once apparently.
That was news to her.
In fact, Hestia was pretty sure this was a first time discovery no other god or goddess had come across before in all the thousand years they'd all been mingling amongst the mortal children.
She'd noticed it before of course, but it wasn't as apparent till now. In total, out of all the excelia Caelan had gained since she gave him the falna, only a third of it had been converted into his stats.
Akin to trying to pour an entire bucket of water into a small glass all at once.
She put most of what she saw out of mind for the moment, though she definitely would be coming back to it once she was done here with what she was doing.
"Are you sure about this?" she asked, "It was just last night you said you wanted to hold off and get the most out of things and maximize your growth."
One of the first things he'd said to her when he returned, was he wanted to level up. She'd certainly been surprised to hear that from him after what he'd told her and Lili last night. She'd actually been a bit worried he'd bitten off a bit more than he could chew.
In actuality, it was the other way around.
Caelan didn't look up from where he was laying his head on one of their pillows as he replied, "That was before I managed to kill the Goliath," he replied, "I should get a ton of growth from it in my stats, and with a level up, I'll be able to go that deep easily myself without help next time and even deeper. I could get more out of being level one for sure, but I'm thinking it'll be quicker to level up now and go deeper, so I can get a hold of stronger monster magic stones and make more money while I'm at it."
More money huh? Considering he came back with a pouch totalling around seven million valis after he sold the drop items he got from his little nightly romp into the dungeon. She didn't think they quite needed much more at the moment.
He could afford a big mansion, Lili said the good ones started at around ten million. Though Caelan seemed to want to spend a larger amount on one.
Her Caelan was crazy for sure.
"Well…you definitely grew a lot, that is for sure." Hestia admitted with a sigh, looking down at the falna on his back. She thought his growth up until now was crazy.
But this? This took the cake.
"Oh?" his head perked a little with interest and even though he was laying face down she could see the grin curling at the side of his lips.
It was just that big.
"Give me a second," Hestia snorted, reaching over to her dresser to grab a sheet of paper, "I'll show you your final stats as a level one in a moment once I level you up." she added, setting the bit of paper down before focusing on his back.
She concentrated on it, dribbling her essence into him and feeling the power within him rouse at prodding of her own. Like a small living flame, it perked up and almost eagerly responded to her.
In moments it was done.
Or it should have been.
Hestia's eyes widened in absolute shock as she realised something. All that remaining excelia he had? The feat engraved on his back of defeating the Goliath.
….She could level him again, straight to level three if she used up the unused excelia.
That…what? Again, she'd never even heard of this being an option! Or a possibility at all!
Every day her precious Caelan seemed to want to throw what she knew into disarray and and even more reasons why gods everywhere would hound his steps constantly to try and steal him from her.
"If you could level up to level three straight away, would you do it?" Hestia asked him then and there, though, she already knew his answer.
"Nope." Caelan denied immediately and Hestia's lips curved into a grin.
"I thought so." she beamed at him, thankfully that wouldn't be an issue. Besides….from what she could see, this might just be better for him. And he would definitely think so.
It was just as well anyway, level two in a few weeks already completely destroyed Loki no boobs precious Wallenwhatsit's record of levelling up, him hitting level three on top would make it look like he was stomping all over the previous record and announcing his superiority.
Which he was totally was by the way, her precious Caelan was better than all of that itty bitty tittied bitch's entire familia put together.
She drew upon the massive amount of excelia left over, and used it. And as she began funnelling it into the new, empty slate he had as a level two…a skill formed upon his back.
Thar-Shruth: Excess Excelia converted into evolution and development of skills.
