“Would you like to go visit Briella with me next week?”
Lillian looked up from the book she was reading in surprise. We were both enjoying a peaceful day off of work. My girlfriend decided she wanted to spend the day reading at the park. It was one of my favorite activities as well, so we decided to make a date day out of it.
We were sitting on a soft, thick blanket together. We had been reading for the past couple of hours, enjoying the peaceful sounds of the park when I broke the near silence.
“I haven’t seen her in months,” I explained, “not since Sulien’s birthday. I was hoping to start visiting more often. I want to be a part of their lives, you know?”
Lillian shifted so that she was pressed against my side. “I understand,” she murmured, setting her book down so she could take my hand in hers. “I’m sorry for reacting that way. I was just surprised since you don’t normally invite me to come along.”
