Chapter 193 - Chapter 181: A Single Shot

Colonel Valestein and a lot of Northern Jaeger squads arrived beside us, assuring we were no longer under immediate threat, or alone. I saw a well-statured old man leading them. His Jaeger outfit was different. He was clad in blue instead of the normal purple-clad Jaeger outfit.

Colonel Valestein. Sara's adoptive Father. Seeing him arrive, I observed him. Just this alone, he carried himself well. He had long since lived life on the battlefield. Out of everyone here, he definitely has the most experience. While I observed him, I saw Colonel Valestein smile at Sara.

"No thanks to you no less, my daughter. It was thanks to your lightning speed that we were able to get here and fend off the first wave of attack from our enemies. To think, Nidhoggr actually colluded with the Red Constellation. Reaching out to Zephyr was not wrong. You've proven yourself well, Phoenix. You too, Sylphid.", Colonel Valestein said, and greeted us with an unexpected compliment.

"Thanks. So you're Sara's dad huh? You seem strong.", Fie happily said, and smiled back at him. Fie was as curt as ever. Despite such rudeness, that caused Colonel Valestein to laugh.

"Haha! You don't know how to hold back. I like that. The way you fight is quite unique too. Same for you Phoenix. Most Jaegers who fight with swords are large, one-handed swords. You, however, use a Rapier. You know how to strike at an enemy's weak point, delivering a prompt blow to their heart without holding back. Whoever trained you has trained you well.", Colonel Valestein said, praising us once again as he looked back my way.

"That means a lot coming from someone of your stature., Sir Valestein. A pleasure to have you and your corp with us tonight.", I said, greeting the man and our newfound allies. "And what I spoke of is the truth. Nidhoggr's Commander took several squads with him. The Red Ogre is hanging around so whenever the next battle starts, it'll be a good one.", I continued, speaking to Colonel Valestein.

"Tch. Looks like our doubts were confirmed after all. It is as you said, Colonel.", A purple-clad Jaeger said, who remained next to Colonel Valestein. This guy also stood out from the rest. He had very similar hair to Tio's. It was blue. But his was a shade or two darker. His weapon of choice was also unique. Unlike a rifle, I could see him carrying around a large orbal hammer. That's right, a hammer. He might be one of the only characters in the Trailsverse who actually uses one, and is quite proficient at that.

"It's not like we didn't take any action in regard to that front, Rogan. We came here knowing that we are back up. It's not the other way around. The rest of our allies have made their way back to the capital since we have predicted this. That includes the remaining members of Zephyr, you two. That route is far more secure than how things look over here. The Red Constellation sure likes to leave wanton destruction. This isn't the first time we've fought against them, and I highly doubt it will be the last.", Colonel Valestein said, reprimanding the blue-haired man beside him.

So his name is Rogan, huh?

"Thankfully the next wave hasn't arrived yet. Glad to see you made it, Boss.", Marty said, welcoming Colonel Valestein.

"I don't see Zeno, Leo or Boss either. If what you said is true, then the capital should be safe in their hands. We can have some more fun here. I haven't fought the Red Constellation before. This should be an interesting battle.", Fie happily said. She was already getting an inch to start battling, huh? I don't blame her. She's much more used to the battlefield than I am. And it is this very same attitude that she will clash against a woman named Laura S. Arseid in the future when Class VII forms. Sir Victor's daughter. Thankfully, the two end up becoming close friends, but I get to see this side of Fie before Laura does.

And who knows, even I might clash with Laura every so often too in the coming future thanks to my new perspective of being a Jaeger myself.

"Indeed. We've received plenty of intel to let us divert our forces like this. The Jaeger King and his squads are going to intercept Nidhoggr while we are to fend off the Red Constellation. We must hold the line here, no matter the cost. If they break through, they'll have a straight shot to the capital.", Colonel Valestein said, his eyes remaining serious.

"Just our luck. I'd rather fight Nidhoggr than these crazy demons. Good thing ya came when ya did, Phoenix, Sylphid. Otherwise we likely wouldn't be alive right now. They don't show any remorse, so it's good you didn't when you finished off their scouts.", Talion said, smiling at us.

"Heh. That much is normal, is it not? If we can't do this much, then we can't be called Jaegers. Holding the line is what we're good at doing. We'll send those bastards straight to Gehenna.", The blue-haired man said with a smirk. "The name's Rogan, by the way. I'm one of the Northern Jaeger's Captains. If you weren't already here with Talion, you'd likely be fighting alongside my squads."

"You do realize it is the Red Ogre who we're up against, right? There's barely anyone out there who is his equal.", I shot back at Rogan, seeing his current demeanor.

"Ah right, you're here. I'm surprised Zephyr is letting kids like you even step foot on the battlefield.", Rogan retorted, seeing a violet-haired boy standing not too far away with a condescending look in his eyes. He also saw Fie next to me, who by the way, was even younger. Fie glanced her eyes back at him as if she was looking at a piece of dirt. Seeing Fie's gaze seemed to tick Rogan off. A visible look of anger appeared on his forehead.

Surprisingly, Rogan couldn't even lash out again before Sara butted in, and stood in front of us.

"Cut the crap, Rogan. Do keep it in mind who it is exactly that's paying Zephyr. We can't afford to lose our allies. You know that. Take another step and I'll haul your sorry ass back to the capital so you can sit along with that vice-captain you love so much.", Sara immediately retorted before we could do anything. She then looked right at Rogan in the eyes. "And for the record, Phoenix is one of Zephyr's Captains. He holds the same rank as you, and right now, you are unbefitting of one. Seriously, I don't know why Papa even promoted you."

"This brat is a Captain?", Rogan responded, only to take another glance at me. I saw a fire light up in Fie's eyes, she was literally ready to pounce on the guy to show him a lesson. But I motioned my arm, and Fie backed off. Her eyes shifted back toward me, and gained interest, wondering what I was going to do next.

I didn't back down. Instead, I approached this hard-ass who called himself Rogan. He carried an air around him that reminded me of nobility. Not something you'd come across Jaegers. Well, excluding me, that is, haha!

"Tell you what, Rogan, was it? You definitely seem to be full of yourself, but you look like you have the strength to back up those words. Well, so do I. How about a little proposition?", I suddenly said, which drew everyone's eyes my way. I was used to having a lot of eyes back on me for being a noble and all, so I was used to this.

"Oh? It sounds like you've already formulated a plan, Phoenix.", Colonel Valestein said with an interested look in his eyes. I nodded my head at him, confirming his words.

"I do. I have the ability to deal a large blow at the Red Constellation's forces in one fell swoop. All I need is some time to prepare. Do you think you guys have what it takes to fend off the frontline so I can prepare this attack?",

"You might excel in combat but what can a brat like you do to deliver such a large blow to our enemy?", Rogan replied and scoffed at me.

Instead, I reached over to my comms. I ignored Rogan, and spoke out to who was on the other end.

"Emma, I'm going to bring THAT out. I need you to watch my six.", I suddenly spoke out. Apart from Fie, those around me were unfamiliar with the name, they just watched on.

"You calling your own backup, Phoenix?", Sara asked with interest.

"Something like that.", I replied, smiling back at her.

It was then they heard a voice reach out to me on my comms. It was loud enough to hear. Many became surprised to hear the sound of another girl.

"...Are you sure, Naoto?", Emma's voice said, which echoed around us. The older Jaegers became interested in this voice they haven't heard. It was then they started to look around, only to see two figures standing off on a tall rocky crag in the distance. But Emma's voice spoke out as if she was right beside me.

"Yes. I'll need your backup. Thanks for the assist earlier, by the way.", I replied, speaking into my comms again.

"Hehe, it was no problem. I will head down to your position in a moment.", Emma's voice spoke through again. After that, the line was cut off. Further beyond, the plum-haired girl turned toward Claire again, and spoke out to her.

"I'll be heading down to where Naoto is. He requires my support. Please do not move around nonchalantly. I do not want you to be caught in the blast radius.", Emma said to Claire.

"..Blast radius?", Claire tried to respond, only to become wide-eyed at the sight of Emma pulling out her staff. That's right, she now has a staff of her own. The very same one she uses in Cold Steel! Claire observed this staff, surprised. "Is that a staff?", Claire tried to ask.

But Emma didn't reply. She remained silent, and raised her staff upward. Claire then saw a bluish aura begin to wrap around Emma's body. Then, Claire found herself wrapped around by the same blue glow.

"Eh? What is this---?", Claire tried to ask. Sadly for her, she couldn't even finish reacting before changing positions. They were no longer a distance away from me on that crag. All of a sudden, everyone became surprised, seeing two figures pop into existence beside me. Emma successfully used a teleportation incantation!

Many of the Northern Jaegers became shocked seeing two people arrive beside Fie and I, while Fie acted like she was already used to it.

"The hell? Weren't you two all the way over there!?", Marty exclaimed.

"I'm ready, Phoenix.", Emma said, ignoring Marty's question.

"Excellent. And while I wish I could spend explaining what you all saw, that would take all day. We don't have that luxury. Instead, I will follow through with what I proposed.", I said to everyone, revealing a grin of my own. Rogan clicked his tongue at me, but he remained quiet. He remained calm on the outside, but I could see surprise in his eyes while he looked at Emma and Claire. And honestly, it was funny seeing Claire's reaction to Magic. But I kept my laughter to myself. I took this time to look at Colonel Valestein.

"I will need a few moments to prepare. Can you make it so no one makes it to my position?", I asked him. "All I require is a single shot."
