Chapter 28 - Who was that?

DIANA'S POV

"Do you remember now, Diana?", Dr. Blackwell asked.

"What about, Dr. Blackwell?", I asked Dr. Blackwell what memory is he referring about. By the look of his eyes, he seemed anxious, yet eager.

"..about humans turning to wolves?", he cleared.

Suddenly, the thought of it sounded delusional, that I have decided to let it go. "Nevermind, I've been reading novels lately", I responded as I sigh and lower my eyes. Seeing Dr. Blackwell's reaction was confusing. It was as if, he was dismayed with his tight lip and sullen gaze. Frequently, ever since I met Dr. Blackwell, he have always asked me if I remember anything about wolves. Something that was never clear in my memories. From then on, he would keep me in check just in case I remember a tiny bit about them. At some point, it makes me look forward to finding that lost piece of me. And find out its connection with my existence, especially, my dad.

"Ask your mother, Diana. She holds more answers. I'm sure", Dr. Blackwell said as he went back to his chair. He knew I never ask her about wolves. Not even once. It's just, my mother and I never had a chance to sit down and talk about our pasts. It's never really a thing for us to open old memories, and reminisce about them. And so, that secret chapter of my life have always been a closed book.

Thereafter, I went to my office and saw Kate on her desk speaking with someone on the phone, signaling she'll follow me in my room. I sighed at the sight of my desk full of paperworks and patient files. "Back to work", I placed my coat and my bag on the table, sat down on my chair, and started scanning the pile of documents one by one. A few minutes later, Kate came in with my black coffee and a piece of paper. "Let me see a clear view of you", she said as she put down my coffee and the paper she's holding, then came close to me checking my face. "Oh my goodness, D.. I am so sorry", Kate hugged me and sobbed.

I winced at her warm embrace, realizing my abdomen still ache from William's assault. My reflexes pushed her back a little. "Does it hurt here", she gently touch my stomach. "You should go down to the ER.

"Kate, I'm fine. Really.", I rubbed her shoulders to calm her a little. Sometimes, she overreact and do unexpected things. "I was scared, but hey, I survived!", I said with a smile. The moment I had my phone back, I immediately told Kate everything so I won't cry when I see her. She was so mad, that she wanted to pick me up from back home.

"I can't believe that guy Scott left you. And that Christina?? She should go to jail! Did you file a report at the police!?", Kate asked as she wipe her tears. Like always, she's more emotional than I am.

"The island staff caught them and, I'm sure justice will be served. Let's just forget it. I won't be seeing any of them anymore anyway", trying to hold back my tears in front of my red-faced best friend.

"What about the fortune telling? Do you think it's really true? I mean, it kinda freaked me out D. Especially the wolf thing. ", Kate sat down on the chair near my desk, handling me the Dr. Blackwell's memo.

"I'm never been skeptic, but, here I am", I leaned back and sighed, worried about my future as told by Emilia's cards after a chain of unfortunate events happening in my life lately.

After a bit of an emotional moment with Kate, we both had to buckle down and start working. We were too swamped in between paperworks, and phone calls, that we didn't even noticed the time. I had my fifth cup of black coffee to pull up my drowsy eyes, and keep my yawns back. Our lunches amd snacks were served on our table. It was a very exhausting day even in the back office of the hospital.

Kate left at exactly five in the afternoon. As perusal, I had to complete a 12-hour shift today. When I looked at the time, it's past seven in the evening already. Yet, the hospital corridors are still bustling. Well, that's 24/7 of the time, actually. For that reason, the hands of time seem to fly by when I'm at work. When I noticed that I had to call it a night, I immediately grabbed my stuff and left. Reaching the lobby, I shivered at the cold temperature blowing from the open doors. As I went out, I waved at the guards goodbye and headed my way to the parking lot. Just when I was about to cross the driveway going to the parking lot, I stopped on the side seeing a blue sports car approaching. Well, the car let me pass first so I waved in kind for the courtesy, and went on. On my way to my car, I realized that I have been pouting in annoyance. If only I was able to park my car in my slot by the entrance of the hospital, I wouldn't have to go all the way at the end of the parking lot tonight. It's a little bit dark in that portion of the parking lot, so it's a bit of complete nuisance leaving my car there. There were a couple of busted lamp posts in that area, and as expected, it very dark in there at this time. There are roving guards at some point, but then again, the dark kept me on toes... It's as if, William and his friends would pop out anytime.

Luckily, a car who has been following my tail lighted my way. When I turned around, I saw the same blue sports car which made me cross the driveway earlier. I moved to the side as I brisk walk on my way to my car. I pressed on my stomach and frowned at the pain and discomfort as I walk fast... thinking that I should have taken analgesia and I guess, a much stronger one in cases like this. But, who would have thought that I'll be the target of creepy guys lately? As I reach my car, the blue sports car stopped too. I kept looking back, anxiously. Surely, the car is giving me the creeps. Will this blue car park here? There's so many slots available near the entrance at this time, I thought.

Hurriedly, I took my keys out from my pocket and opened the car door. I hopped in, and immediately locked the doors. I tossed my stuff on the passenger seat and started the car. I honked a couple of times at the blue sports car, before heading out of the hospital vicinity. That truly pumped up my heart and every vein in my body.

Boosted with so much caffeine, I felt so much awake that I didn't feel like going home yet. As I drive the highway, my stomach grumbled reminding that I am about to skip dinner. Thereafter, I decided to drop by a near café to have a quick dinner before heading home. Driving around the empty streets, I chose this small Italian restaurant at an old building that I frequent when I clock out from the hospital early. I parked my car on the side street parking in front of the restaurant, and paid the ticket before going in.

There were not much people dining in there, that I get to choose a cozy spot to have my dinner. Sitting by the window, I ordered a cheese and spinach ravioli with garlic bread and a bottle of sparkling water. The service here has been fast, that it arrived hot and fresh on time. I looked at my delectable food with my mouth open for a while... As I stare in a daze on the plateful of a good meal, flashes of what happened last night began to visit me. I placed my hands on my forehead with my elbows on the table, as I fold my lips in a tight line. My heart suddenly raced, that my fingers began to tremble.

Almost shaking, I grabbed hold of the sparkling water with both of my hands trying to water down the bottling misery. As I glance out of the window, once again, I saw another blue car sports car, looking similar like the one at the hospital, parked near the pavement. Why do I keep seeing blue cars everywhere? Or is it the same car?

I sighed deeply, and stared at my food again. It took a while for me to notice that I'm crying already. I smiled as my tears wash my cheeks. I bit my lip, and wiped the tears with my hands as they flow uncontrollably. Like a child, I cried out not minding the eyes of the few people staring at me. Well, above all places, why did these tears decided to show in a public place where strangers can see? What I know, at this point, my heart sank in defeat.

I combed my hair with my fingers when I noticed that the waitress is directed towards me, serving a napkin. "Oh.. thanks Miss", I said, lowering my chin. My ugly cry might scare here away. Realizing that I didn't have the appetite at all, I placed the payment on the table and left.

With open windows, I drove home instead of eating dinner as planned. As I enter the Villa Estates, I noticed that another blue sports car is following me again. I slowed down and changed lanes. Yet, the blue sports car kept its pace. I shrugged it off, and drove to our driveway as the blue car just went past ahead.
