Heigl writhed in pain, but he forced himself to keep crawling all the way toward the wooded hill bordering the forest. All he wanted was to put distance between himself and the nightmare below.
He had placed his complete trust in Yogev, believing in him like he had never believed in anyone before, only to be utterly shattered by the man's ruthless shift in personality. He had genuinely believed that having a leader who listened to his people was a rare blessing, completely unaware that Yogev was capable of unleashing such horrific cruelty.
Suddenly, Heigl felt the hard earth fall away beneath him. He spun his head around automatically to check what was happening, only to spot Yogev striding slowly toward him, his hand extended at waist height.
Yogev had cast a levitation spell to lift Heigl off the ground without saying a word.
When Yogev finally closed the distance, he spoke in a flat voice. "It was what you said that pushed me to make up my mind."
