Isiah gripped his own neck tightly with both hands, squeezing as though he intended to strangle himself just to cut off the suffocating starvation.
He had no idea how much time had passed while he lay on the cold stone floor attempting to distract his mind, until he caught a faint movement nearby.
He heard the soft rustle of the mattress. He remained completely motionless, terrified that making a wrong move would push his fractured sanity over the edge.
"Isiah, are you here?" she whispered quietly, her voice trembling in the dark room.
Hearing her voice, Isiah sat up instantly. Ever since he had caught that intoxicatingly sweet scent, he had been treating her as if she were already a corpse.
Yet she was alive, leaving him utterly confused as to why her scent smelled so uniquely sweet.
Seeing her stirring on the bed, he jumped up and moved closer to her side.
