Isiah didn't waste a single moment outside the estate. The instant Lexie's limp body was secured in his arms, he dispelled Jaffar's summoning spell.
Turning on his heel, he stormed into the house, desperate to check on Ciel.
The moment he pushed open the bedroom door, Eijar slithered to the edge of the mattress, her voice trembling. "His fever won't break, even with the cold water. I kept applying it, Master, but I just couldn't bring the heat down."
Isiah set Lexie down into a sitting position on the edge of the bed, his expression dark as he turned to the serpent. "Let's hope this works, or I am burning the nearest village to the ground right now."
Reaching out, he placed his ice cold palm directly over Lexie's pale cheek, shaking her roughly. "Hey. Wake up."
There was no gentleness in his touch. The abrupt movement startled her, snapping her back into consciousness with a sharp gasp.
Lexie blinked wildly, staring up at him in confusion. "What? What happened?"
