The first thing, which was easier to spot, was the sight of the Cryanids retreating among those that continued to pour into the city. They didn't retreat because they were wounded. Most Cryanids possessed no sense of fear. They would continue to fight even when they lost all their appendages. They were known to throw their lives without hesitation for the good of their broods.
Hence, it was odd for a mass of Cryanids to retreat when the rest of the brood was still fighting. Furthermore, these retreating Cryanids had no visible wounds, and they didn't leave empty-handed.
Held in their forelimbs were humans. Silky-looking filaments wrapped around these humans, binding them, so they couldn't resist the Cryanids that were transporting them.
Their number was not small. From the look of it, the purpose of the Cryanid's assault might as well be to kidnap the humans.
