The sound of metal clashing against each other and the grunts of men's voices alerted Lucas and his men to another altercation near the road. Did they happen upon the bandits by chance? An arrow whistled through the air, and Lucas had to step back in order to avoid it. His men immediately took action and pulled Lucas into cover behind some trees.
Lucas wanted to curse under his breath. It felt like someone was intentionally keeping him from returning to the estate. The messenger from earlier should have returned by now. The estate should be on full alert. However, this did little to ease his worries. More arrows pelted the surrounding ground. There were far too many for this to be mere coincidence.
