Chapter 1 - Chris P. Bacon

Chris Peterson Bacon—called by his friends Chris P. Bacon, or you know, Chris—was among the many random dudes living such normal lives that you can barely differentiate between them. There was absolutely nothing special about him apart from his dumb name. Born in the Philippines which was home to many kinds of faces from different races due to its history, he was, unfortunately, one of those very forgettable dudes.

Chris was quite shabby. He had a small belly, a round face, a big nose, and full lips, and he liked to keep his hair very short. His skin was brown just like most of the people around him, and there was nothing notable about him. In high school, his best talent was an above-average singing voice which eventually changed the moment puberty hit him like a truck. And the next talent he had? He could move both of his ears. Although even that up and down movement wasn't really much.

His grades... He used to excel, honestly. Unfortunately, before high school, he joined some bad company, and he was never able to catch up to his studies. He learned a lot of bad habits like saying bad words, skipping classes, and making up excuses for any shortcomings he had. He got too lazy, and upon entering high school, there were so many people better than him.

Well, regardless of that, he was still able to graduate in time and got into college. There could have been so many stories about his high school life, but unfortunately, he chose to focus on playing computer games and even f*cked up by cheating on the only girlfriend he ever had. With his best friend's girlfriend to boot! If anyone were to ever know the entire story, everyone would just say that he was seriously stupid.

Upon graduating high school, he chose a college far away from home to start anew. Maybe a fresh start could make his life more colorful? Well, he was wrong. Or rather, he just royally messed things up. He had a chance, but he got addicted to games and failed a lot of subjects during his first year of college. And so he became an irregular student, and during the next 5 years, he never had any proper friends.

He basically spent his entire college joining one group of friends to another, never able to keep a strong enough bond. And so, his college life ended just like that. Onto the next path, he said. Unfortunately, he found a work-from-home job, and what even are friends, honestly?

One year later, he was still working at home; he was getting a nice pay, at least, but he was bored. So bored and so regretful of how his life turned out. At this moment, he was lying on his bed and looking at the ceiling, thinking about the many things that went wrong in his life. Three hours had passed, and he had yet to reach halfway.

"What the f*ck is wrong with me?!" Upon recalling the worst memory of them all, Chris could do nothing but curse in anger. At one point in his life, a girl loved him so deeply, and yet he betrayed him just because another girl sent him some signals and he felt like it was too thrilling. He was able to hide it for a few months, but eventually, karma happened. He got caught, the girl obviously broke up with him with tears in her eyes, and not only did he lose her, but he also lost his best friend and his reputation.

He sucked. And then college came. How did it go wrong? Computer games addiction. Chris lamented on and on, but honestly, there was nothing he could change. No matter how bad the past was, he had to move on. He still had a life to live. And that was what he kept saying every day, but at the same time, he would regret everything. Perhaps at this point, he could have already been married, had kids, or even had friends to share his life with.

And as forgettable as he was, his life full of regrets had turned into a routine of sleep, eat, work, play, read, rinse, repeat… An endless cycle unfolded before his eyes, and the next thing he knew, he was now living that same life he vowed to never have when he was younger. He was now that mediocre person he always scoffed at.

"I'll never be like those corporate guys whose eyes are dead and doing the same sh*t every day." Although he was working from home, he was, nevertheless, still a corporate slave. At the end of it all, he was living in mediocrity, and today was the day he decided to change it.

Or not.

"Isn't that game out today?" Upon remembering the new game he got a free beta-key on, Chris immediately forgot his conviction to start anew and all the regrets he had in life. It was a dating sim game with RPG elements, so he was very excited to try it out. As a person who never had a love life again, he would fill the void in his heart with such games.

He looked at the time and saw that it was already 3:00 p.m. Today was Saturday, and he honestly had nothing to do. He just lazed around all day, watching funny videos on the internet until he started to get dramatic with how his life turned out. Upon having a new motivation to get up, he immediately went to his PC, opened his e-mail, and checked that the game was now live.

"Welcome, player 1, my champion. You've been invited to test our newest game, Love Is Entropy. You'll be facing hurdles upon entering this beautiful world, so we have a gift for you. We hope you can open the passage soon and achieve everything that you ever hoped for~"

- Axia

Chris was a bit confused by the new e-mail he received, but that didn't hinder his excitement. New games were always fun to try out. Although he didn't have a lot of expectations, any game with romance would make him happy. Choosing the best heroine and experiencing her story was simply very satisfying.

He scrolled down and found a link. He immediately clicked it and…

Nothing. His vision went blank.
