Martin Fernandez stared at the crumpled black bag.

He thought, as his dry, cracked lips twitched, forcing a smile. Then he reached out, slowly opened the bag, pulled out a bottle of mineral water, tilted his head back, and took a sip. His ears twitched as he heard footsteps quickly returning, stopping again at the alley entrance by the wall.
He lifted his eyes to see Sarah Joseph returning once more.
She obviously thought of something, couldn't hold back her words, and immediately asked him: "Are you in some kind of trouble? We're compatriots, and we should help each other out in a foreign country. Is there anything I can help you with?"
