Inside the bamboo house, there was an oil lamp emitting a cozy, warm, orange-yellow light.
Gui, Zhao Lingfei, and Xiao Qian'er sat around the table, with four sets of bowls and chopsticks laid out.
Gui's seat faced the door, Zhao Lingfei and Xiao Qian'er sat close to him, on his right and left sides respectively, leaving the opposite seat empty.
Gui thought for a moment and then withdrew his gaze.
"Uncle Bai probably won't be back for dinner," he explained, "I asked him to help with something, so he went back to Duyou City first."
Xiao Qian'er, who always liked to steal glances at Brother Rong, was doing so again. After Gui spoke, the little girl with almond eyes glanced slightly upward at Brother Rong, then looked at the usually calm Miss.
Zhao Lingfei gracefully held a bowl, gaze lowered, holding her chopsticks, waiting with Qian'er for their husband to pick the dishes first.
