Ezra's phone buzzed again, persistent this time. It was still early, the soft glow of dawn brushing across Scarlett's bare shoulder as she lay curled beside him. He carefully reached over, not wanting to disturb her, and glanced at the screen.
Commissioner Quinn.
Ezra sighed and took the call, stepping out to the balcony for privacy.
"Commissioner."
"Ezra," came the brisk, gravel-edged voice. "Sorry for the timing, but I didn't want to wait. The team's assembled. Everything is in place for the mission."
Ezra's posture straightened. "So, it's confirmed?"
"Yes. The jet leaves in 48 hours. We'll be heading to Milan first, then tracking down the last known associates of the original De Luca family. You and Scarlett will need to be fully briefed before departure."
Ezra's jaw tightened. "Scarlett's coming, then?"
