Chapter 21 - Chapter 20: That's How It Feels

"What do mean Ms..."

"Foxington, my last name is Foxington. But you can call me Susan, as I introduced earlier."

"Ah yes, Ms Foxington. What are you implying?" The head soldier asked.

"The biscuits have been contaminated with mushrooms, and not the normal kind,"

"No food is normal at this point," Jaxon muttered under his breath. Sierra jabbed him in the ribs

*Cough, cough, cough*

Throwing them a pointed stare she added.

"And if we continue to eat them... I don't know but it will indisputably not be good." Susan's fiery brown eyes darkened with worry.

Pondering for a while the head soldier said, "Well you eat or you die. Unless you can conjure food for the base, there is nothing we can do about it." The head soldier motioned to one of the soldiers to show June and the rest out.

Standing in the plaza full of unconscious people June questioned with worry, "What are we going to do? The head soldier is right, we can't magically make food appear. The food outside can not be eaten because it might be contaminated. And god only knows if there is good food out there. If there are any malls or shops, they are gonna be filled with those creatures, and we are not strong enough to fight them. Plus trees were easy to kill, but knowing those monsters were human... I can't bring myself to kill it."

"She's right, and through my observation, none of the people here have abilities," Susan added as she looked towards the sky.

Looking at her distraught teammates Siera let out a frustrated sigh, "I did not want to add more worry to our problems but..."

After half a minute of waiting for Siera to continue Hayley snapped, "We'll go on. We don't have all day."

Taking in a deep breath Siera continued, "I sensed someone the other day. After the woman in the plaza broke down. As we walked towards our house I sensed it."

Susan frowned as she listened. June noticed her frown and asked what the problem was. "I felt it too, I just want sure. I thought it was one of the dying plants due to the conditions we live in now. But thinking back to it, that wasn't a plant..."

"Or human," Siera finished Susan's sentence.

"How could you be sure? I mean, nothing makes sense anymore. It could have been your imagination," Jaxon countered.

"Maybe," Susan and Siera both said as one looked down and the other looked up respectively.

"Okay, enough of the grim mood. Let's find out what we can do about the food situation." June broke the sombre atmosphere with her calm yet cheery voice.

"Yeah, maybe we can grow food in this godforsaken place," Hayley sarcastically added. Jaxon looked at June and gloated, "That's how it feels."
