When Bertha Haines saw the man on the screen, she was momentarily stunned, but quickly snapped back and immediately opened the door.
The man in front had already shaved the beard off his face, cut his hair short, and was wearing a black suit, making him look clean and refreshed.
The longing accumulated over the past year should have turned into strength, urging her to run towards him.
But at this moment, she suddenly felt a bit reserved, a bit shy.
"You're right on time."
Bertha pouted slightly, her tone carrying a hint of complaint, but soon she lifted the corners of her mouth into a smile.
"Welcome home."
As Bertha was sizing up Amos Smith, he quietly observed her as well, finally opening his arms to her, a hint of a smile touching the corners of his eyes.
"A hug, please."
